Finally got the trike engine together and fairly sorted out--good enough to haul it to Bonneville for a pit bike anyway. I haven't opened it up yet but it is definitely stronger than the old stocker. Gotta watch out for wheelies!! Yahoo!!!

Add me to the consensus that this thing is one NEAT ride! See you on the salt.

I have several distributors to choose from, but haven't fiddled with this engine enough to know what it needs. I'm pretty sure it will end up with a modified adv curve. It seems to me that the old 009's had shorter advance than the newer stuff. I'd like to be able to run enough initial to keep a good idle, but shorten the curve a bit. I like the look of an old iron distributor. |

I really liked the way this exhaust sounded on the stock engine. It had that little VW chirp at idle. Now I think it still sounds good, but with a bit more testosterone... |

Thanks for the kind words about the trike. I just spent 2 weeks trying to undo some of the corrosion from taking it to Bonneville in 2009, and now I'm about to pee waiting to rush it back to the salt!!
Really looking forward to seeing everyone and checking out the great VW stuff. We'll be arriving around noon Tuesday, camping at the bend in the road.
See ya'll there! |

Sounds like a 019 would work, it has 17 degrees advance and it comes in strong at the lower end of the curve.
The VJ4BR8 is the same as the 019. _________________ Glenn

Thanks Glenn, That sounds like what it might need. I have at least one each of those units. |
