Hey all. I have a customer who possibly needs a new turn signal switch. I have no power to the left rear light when stalk is in the left signal position, unless I move the stalk ever so slightly back towards the neutral position. When in the neutral position, i have power to my both brake lights. I have eliminated all outside sources by "bench testing" this switch.
How are the aftermarket switches holding up? Quality? I may suggest buying one used but looking at available options now. Anyone rebuilding these unique switches? Bus now has a universal switch installed by the PO. Thanks in advance, Bill |

So, nobody has any positive/negative feedback on the replacement switch. A few places in SoCal sell them so were gonna probably get one and test it and then install it. |

The only place that I have seen that sells early bay turn signal switches is Wolfsburg West. However, from what I understand you have to use the old housing. If you can find one local to you then you are pretty lucky. _________________ 1978 Riviera FI Auto Trans

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

Somebody here (Goat?) was pretty unimpressed with them, seems you have to try a few until you get a winner. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks, that's just GREAT! (Snicker). At least here in SoCal I won't have shipping charges if problems arise. |

I ordered one of those switches from OEVeeDub last spring. The first one
they sent was pretty obviously defective, sent it back. The second one
checked out OK with my electrical meter and seemed to work allright in hand, but I haven't installed it yet. It's a pretty close replica of the original,
but the workmanship is decidedly low-end, at least as far as the attachment
of the connectors to the wire-ends goes. Also, they used a much smaller
than stock screw size to attach the switch to the housing, so if you get a
guts-only switch, you will have to re-tap the threaded holes in the switch to
use it with a stock housing & screws. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Well, to update and inform all, SGKent located a NOS switch in No Carolina that Jake Martinez had. As nervous as my customer was, he bought it for $200. I installed it today into his early '69 Bay. Installation went well and further fixed additional wiring. Want to publically thank SGKent for his diligent work in finding this switch and subsequently e-mailing me and Jake Martinez for the NOS Swf switch.

Disappointing to hear that the aftermarket switches are of poor quality. Has anyone tried to rebuild the original? My 69 bay switch works fine, but doesn't stay on. I was hoping to get some ideas on rebuilding it. _________________ 71 Bultaco

I re-purposed a '70 switch for my '72 camper. Just identified what wires did what:
Then started snipping out old/unnecessary wires:
And soldered in fresh wiring:
Installed it (ignore the 'honk' haha):
And it works great. Left, right, bright toggle and the occasion self canceling ring action.
Good luck! Don't be afraid to take it apart and experiment. They come apart easily.
PS - Go Steelers! Grew up in Pittsburgh. _________________ '72 L11H Campmobile in various stages of disrepair. Just bumbling along... |
