Guys,

I need a pair of these bad boys. are any vendors remaking them?

are used ones viable? looks like something that would rust away by now...

They do rust away real quick. Doubt your're going to find any new parts for an old Westy bed. Just make your own. Doesn't need to be welded. Drill a couple holes in a small plate. This might be one of the few locations I'd recommend silicone sealant. Clean the underside real clean and then use a lot of sealant on both sides of your new plate. But use some good rust resistant primer on everything first.

^X2^
It's rare that I get those out in one piece lately, it's just a piece of ~16GA with a couple of bolts welded in and a strip of weatherstripping, a couple of fender washers would slow the production line a bit but do the same thing.

RTV is acidic. I would recommend an autobody caulk from an autobody store. Do you want to see what RTV did to our roof where the acid ate the steel and water wicking under it did the rest? I found it when I scrapped the RTV off.

Gotta agree with SG, there's really no place I can imagine a use for a silicone based caulk/sealant on a vehicle.
Auto seam sealer (NAPA even sells it) or urethane gutter caulk from Home depot (very similar to late model windshield adhesive) would be my choices.

aw slick thanks guys

i think i might go stainless when i make them...theres no risk of dissimilar metals action there is there? i'll look that up first.

can't weld it (SS) so easy then though....to lock the bolts to the plate that is....right?

No need to weld it since it pretty much already takes a second person to get it all bolted up.

Good catch and call on the silicone. Actually I think I used 3M Autobody Sealant on mine.

I misplaced mine when I took my seat apart, now I am looking around for them, this thread helped me find the size. seems like an easy home made fix.
Just have to get the bolt size
