I just did. The previous T3 manifolds I've seen have been a lot shorter than that. It seemed that getting to the spark plugs would have been a real treat. |

I use Type 3 intake manifolds from CB Performance.
They move the carbs down, but they also move them in. Much closer to the fan shroud.
I run an early 40hp shroud on my engine. There is no way it would work with a stock doghouse shroud.

Well, that's no good. Looks like I'll get mine milled. John was right; 5 degrees will get me 1/2". |

be a man! and run CB's big beef manifolds
I bet they'd clear, and they are tall for TORQUE
(if they fit in your engine compartment) |

I thought those were IDA manifolds only. I was wrong. |

The question is what manifolds do you currently have?
I have run CB offset manifolds and the Big Beef manifolds and they both clear the shroud with room to spare.
Either that or send yours to Art Thraen and have them milled. |

wow, fast!
I've run the big beef on three engines, I'd say they sit OUT about 1/2" more per side than CB sedan manifolds, and those sit out 1/2" more than empi
I've thought about angle milling them to swing them IN |

That's the thing; I don't know, and I don't know how to find out. Maybe mine are EMPIs. Like I said, this is a stock stroke motor, and I had to hammer the shroud and file some spots on the carbs in order to fit them.
One of my buddies here does VW machining. I'll ask him about it. |

the CB big beef is taller, and on the engine that sets the carbs out farther due to the angle though it's not that visible on the table |

My car has been on the back burner lately, but I'd like to get serious again and bump this back up.
I am now open to modifying and using a Scat 36hp shroud if it won't burn my motor up. I'm less keen on milling the manifolds due to not wanting the carbs to sit so close to the inner fenders. Any more thoughts, folks? |
