I found this switch in a box of parts that came with a bus.
Screw terminal, VW marking, no part number, no obvious way to attach it.

Anybody know what it is?

looks similar to the column switch for the rear light, but mine is an off-white color...

Yes, it looks somewhat like the speedo pod interior light switch but there should be a thread portion sticking out around the switch so it can mount to the pod.

Notice thread in middle. Ring screws on/off to secure it to the pod.

That's what I would say it is... Does it look like the screw bezel has been broken off? I had a broken one in my garage, but I think I finally caught myself hoarding and got rid of it...
