been doing some work on the 70 deluxe, got the motor, trans, and fuel tank out. i cleaned out the fuel tank and used muratic acid to clean out the rust and red koted the inside. got the fuel tank installed, new filler hose, replaced the cover. pulled out the shifter rod and straightened the bend in the rear. i also welded up a round hole through the firewall/ bulkhead. Now today i got some goodies from Bus Depot, new shifter bushings, nose cone seal and bushings, and coupler. i also bought a new hockey stick ball from weddle. my hockey stick had some play in it and the ball was worn very good. i replaced the brass bushings and seal and its a lot tighter now. i also installed the coupler and shifter rod buishings. i tack welded the cage per bus daddy.

Question: does the rear shifter rod bend go up or down?
I believe that the bend goes down. You can easily tell because the front end of the rod is threaded for the grub screw which is on the bottom. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Now's the time to clean and paint the engine compartment. Or have you already done that? _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I've cleaned it with degreaser and it looks really good. I've got some work to do on the battery tray area and both rear corners. I've seen your work aeromech and youve done some fantastic work, really nice paint in the engine compartments. _________________ Chuck

It's a fault of mine. I'm anal about clean engines. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I'm probably going to buy myself a steam cleaner tomorrow. Fewer chemicals and better/faster job. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
