~3850lbs
'84 tintop with 160lb driver, no middle seat, lightweight custom rear seat, weekender cabinets, a second battery/house power setup, a thule T2 bike rack, misc tools and spare fluids and parts, and about a half a tank of gas.
Took as load of junk to the brand new waste transfer station here in town and saw that it has scales for the residential lanes and couldn't help but take advantage. For science. _________________ '73 Super Beetle (resto-mod/rally look, 1776)

I finally got mine weighed a couple weeks ago. Syncro hightop camper, fully loaded for a surf weekend, no passengers but with two dogs it was 5200lbs. I think I can trim that down a bit pretty easily. There's a lot of things that came in the van that I've never audited. There's definitely things that I've never used. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

My Syncro Tristar work truck with less then half a tank and me not in it weighs in at just over 5700 pounds.
I’m glad I don’t pay reg based on actual weight.

My van put on weight recently...
2017 - 5,080 lbs (on 23 state trip)
2019 - 4,980 lbs
2019 - 4,800 lbs
2019 - 5,560 lbs (?!?!...fully loaded for a trip: two people, full tank of gas, full water tank, two bicycles, inflatable kayak, gear for a camping trip by boat, etc., etc. ) All the weight gain on the rear axle due to two RMW swing outs (one with two bikes, the other with a utility box, no gasoline or spare tire in the rear)
I drove across windy central WA and OR to Bend last week and it still drives reasonably well but the weight is noticed. I'd like to put it on a diet but the swing outs are one of my favorite features of the van (they carry loads but they make it very easy to get into the hatch).

1986 Syncro Westy, mostly loaded: Driver and passenger, ALH TDI, mostly full diesel tank, two full size spares (55 pounds each) on rear bumper, extra weight added to simulate load.
I'll be able to jack the individual corners with the new suspension to be able to balance it out. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

4,950 for a full westy loaded for Moab adventures
From my Moab trip report http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=594213
"One more item I forgot to mention that in "Moab" travel mode we tipped the scales at 4,950 pounds loaded with fuel, water and supplies. My wife and I make up about 390 of those pounds and other extras for this trip probably weighed around 180 pounds. Extras for this trip were a 2nd spare, 3-4 gallons of extra water in a metal jerry can, 10 gallons of extra fuel in metal jerry cans, metal sand ladders, and a scissor jack as secondary jack." |

Rolled over a scale today. 2WD Wolfsburg automatic with about 50lbs of stuff in it and my 180lb carcass weighed 3620. So, 3390 curb weight. That was low on fuel, too. For reference, I pulled the A/C out of mine a while ago - all overhead ducts and the compressor. _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1988 Toyota Supra 5 speed targa, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

Umm, that's what I was trying to say! An empty 3/4 ton pickup truck with driver has the majority of its weight on the front wheels, whereas fully loaded it is the rear which is carrying most of the weight. This has no relevance to the weight distribution of my Vanagons as posted. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX
