I so TOTALLY agree with Pioneer. Hopefully your characteristics and personalities will continue when you take to the road. North America is in for a lot of fun and some shaking it up! Enthusiasm may very well be your fuel _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Rubbachicken I love your pioneer spirit and enthusiasm as you smash all rules, barriers and time lines with the restoration.
I have a homemade paint booth in my shop that I scrub and clean as thorough as possible before painting a vehicle...and I still get bugs or dust particles in the paint. You guys didn't even sweep the driveway and your work looks great. You are having waaay tooo much fun. Keep it up! |
i don't think we're smashing the rules, maybe bending them a little
it was SO windy while we were painting, most of the paint went onto the shed at the top of the driveway
sweeping up, there seemed no point, there are so many trees here it rains leaves, but i did run the hose on the ground all round so the paint wouldn't stick to the floor and we'd not kick any more than would be falling on us
fun, i'm not sure it was fun, i'm a chronic migraine sufferer, and have been for 25 years, 3 days of pain then maybe a day maybe or two before the next one, i'd much rather be in bed than working on lucy, but we need to hit the road as soon as possible
right now we are waiting on a front blower fan, i hope it's be here on wednesday {thank you to DLJ for that} he kindly got one shipped out to us
today i have a lot of assembly, some wiring and two 30'+ tree's to fell _________________ lucy our westy

Good post Tim. I think those of us who were at T-Fest and got to see the van and meet Mr & Mrs Rubbachicken are thoroughly enjoying this. Mark, before you hit the road - we need some fair warning. If timing is right maybe we could have a send-off gathering -even if only a few can make it, it would be fun. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

I'm up for that if I can make it (new kid make scheduling a little tricky) I'm about to get my van inspected after the summer off the road. Let us know if something happens _________________ __________________________________

Mrs. Rubbachicken here....
We Were planning on departing this Thursday, but we can put it off to this weekend
if you guys are serious about a little get together. we can postpone by a few days, as we would LOVE to get together with all the people who have been supporting us both in kind words and encouragements, and in answering our constant questions. So?
When where and what??? It sounds like a lot of fun! does anyone have any suggestions? I think Saturday is going to be a pretty day.... What do you think??
I hear there is a really nice little vineyard, at Nashoba valley vineyards, MA where we can have a picnic lunch, and a wine tasting..... yummy wines too... its in western MA by Bolton MA off of Rt. 495.
I don't know if there is somewhere more central to get together... or does someone else have somewhere to suggest??? Let us know...
Feel free to comment and we can try to put this together:)
Thanks for suggesting the get together! _________________ lucy our westy

Nashoba would be perfect for me, I'm 5 mins from there. It's a great place for a picnic and easy to get to. Happens to be where we got married
Saturday works too, it can be me and my son's inaugural trip in the van (albeit, a very short one). _________________ __________________________________

so, you take a glove box
show it a hacksaw
then i ended up with this, with an added karmann ghia fuse box
the finished install

nice! if you guys stick around 'till Saturday I'd like to pick your brains on the aux setup. That's one of my projects this winter.
If we meetup I have a label printer for those fuses. Pencil on masking tape has a habit of becoming unreadable in short order.

we found yet more problema with lucy
the guy we bought her from said that there was an intermitant brake issue, we put 1200 miles on her before it showed it's self, it turns out that the longest steel brake pipe had a hole rusted in it
there was no sign of the missing fluid, so i thought it was the master cylinder main seal leaking into the booster {i've had that before}
today i dropped the spare wheel and found the missing brake fluid around the wheel , the pipe had rusted where it's held to the body by the white plastic clips
she's also dripping coolant
right hand head gasket it seems, we got some subaru coolant conditioner and we'll see if that works _________________ lucy our westy
