I am getting ready for a engine rebuild. Upon cleaning up the block I plan to use, I found some corrosion on the mating surface of the water jacket. Here are a couple of photos after cleaning up with a Dremo grinding bit and with enhanced contrast so the pits can be seen better.
Can they still be used after filling them with JB Weld? Hate to scrap this case as the studs are corrosion free. _________________ Steve

JB= NO.
That is a bit of damage you have there.. the amount of damage makes me wonder if there are other areas on your block that are inconspicuous, or not visible which will be another issue later...
I would take it into machinist who has a track history with this specific block.. see if they can have it welded/filled with Aluminum, and surfaced.
May just get the machine work done at a shop, and buy new heads, pistons/liners, seals and do the assembly.
but, yes, that should be OK, as long as properly fixed.
Get in touch with Jerry from Northwest Connecting rod (Seattle, wa), they did this for my block. |

May I ask how much it cost you to repair yours ?
I have another block ( 170K miles on this block ) that I can use. The corrosion on the surface is less but there are still pits after cleaning up. The head studs on this block has some rust though. _________________ Steve
