|
|
So I want to do a cosmetic restoration on the radio for my '63. I have no desire or need for it to actually work but I want it to look pretty in the stock dash hole. I will install a CD player in the glove box. Got some questions here though.
I sent the chrome face plate to have it plated and I was surprised to receive a completely smooth chrome piece back. I guess I should've looked better before I sent it in but I thought the rougher surface on the face was how it was molded but it appears that it was some sort of a paint. Anyone know how to replicate this?
Also any reputable shops that can make this radio look like new? Like I said, I don't care if it works (other than I want it to light up when I turn on the headlights). I just want a super nice OG radio in the dash. _________________ -Greg |

Eatwood sells a "wrinkle" finish paint in a spray can that may work or you caouls ask your local automaotive paint supplier if they have a wrinkle finish paint.
I know that some muscle car air cleaners and valve covers from the 60s had the wrinkle finish so I know that it is availablle.
I also had the impression that the face plate had some texture to the metal and the edges were smmoth. I seem to remember that when I restored my radio for a 61 that this was the case. |

Eastwood is a no-go. I guess I'll try a paint supply store. _________________ -Greg |
