|
|
i'm trying to rig up a manual override switch for the high-speed fan operation, and i'm having trouble tracing the wires. can anyone tell me where the ketchup and mustard wire goes? it would appear to be in the sleeve that runs just behind the headlight, but i can't find it from the inside. i could just run 5-foot wires, but that seems silly.
also, do i need to fuse/ground the switch? i know it's a pretty low-current circuit, and it's already fused/grounded, but i don't want to burn anything out/blow anything up.
thanks for your help! i hope everyone's enjoying her/his weekend!

Since you have an 86+ that came with A/C there is a wire in the dash that can be easily used to trigger the high speed rad fan relay. If you can find the high speed fan relay socket look for a small black/yellow wire from it that goes to a 2 pin connector that has a larger red/black wire in the other pin. That connector is not used except by the A/C system. You can use the small black/yellow to trigger the fan high speed relay. Connect 12 volts to the male end of the black/yellow that comes from the fan relay socket and the relay should click on and the fan should spin. The key does not have to be on.

i'm thinking about doing the same to an '85 non AC westy, as i'm not sure of it, i figured running the faster fan speed before it's needed can only help me
i'm going to be doing a road trip 4 or 5 months in the westy
right now i have time, tools and space to be playing with the bus |

thank you, mark! you made it easier than i could have hoped.
70, i just like having the option of flipping the switch while i'm hill-climbing. and i can scare the hell out of fellow motorists while sitting at a red light, as well as myself--i'm never not surprised by the volume of that fan. i think i've fixed most of my cooling system issues, but i've had so many problems with it, i like the idea of having some degree of control.
0to60, i want to splice! and i want a wall light switch mounted on my dash! and i need a $5 solution! but that is a very nice-looking product. |

rubbachicken, i say go for it! the wiring was super-simple, at least on my model. engines do like to run pretty hot, but i don't see anything wrong with giving ourselves the power to cool things down when necessary, especially as thermoswitches seem to be failure-prone. |
