Any thoughts on an initial setting for a Koni steering damper for a 73 Westy? |

Initial setting?? They are adjustable, like my old "Special D" shocks?

I went just a tad stiffer than the original dampener. Let us know your results. _________________ James

that comes up as a Porsche vertical shock http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KON-76-1099/?rtype=10
there are quite a few threads where folks paint their regular dampers red to match their Koni shocks as Koni doesn't appear to list one for a bus. Maybe they did at one time. They do list an orange one for a 356 but I don't know if the compressed and extended lengths match or not. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I was going to ask that same thing. So that "shock" works as a steering dampner? I didnt think Koni made one. _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Koni makes a steering damper for a 356 Porsche. One would just need to verify that the compressed and extended lengths are equal. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I second that! Kinda reinforces the statement "I don't know everything".
So, are these widely available or NOS? And what do the sell for? Hopefully we hear some positive/negative feedback from this installed part. Is there a particular reason you sought out this part? Bill |

See that picture of the old original steering damper next to the new koni? Right before I installed, I compressed and expanded both for comparison, I didn't take pictures.
They matched enough for me, but I suspect they might have been off by a couple of millimeters.
Regarding why I wanted this one? Well, because I needed a new damper, and this one was red. Red is obviously the superior color as it is ordered first in the visible light spectrum (rainbows) so, by extension, the damper is superior. It's the same reason my car is red. Red=better, it's natural law.
Seriously, my uncle had it and I needed one, so I bought it. no thought put into it at all.

Page 1 of my gallery shows pics of the dampner by it's box and installed. Yes indeed it is made for a Porsche 356. Yes it is adjustable. No I really didn't need it. Yes is was a bit expensive.
I just like the fact knowing that Ratwell's April fools joke can be a reality.
I'm pretty sure pjalau turned me on to this one. _________________ James
