First, Let me say Hello !
This has been an ongoing project of mine for the last 10 years.
I found it at a used car lot, $350, in 2002
Had no idea what it was, just liked it.
so now that I'm back at it, I decided to start a build thead
I Hope everyone enjoys,

|

Here's the first problem I found
Don't believe anyone thought this was safe
There was one on the bottom also, I didn't bother with a pic
I Just hope someone learns from this
The bad part is, the pan was actually in good shape, exept for the torch cut _________________ Back to work after a 6 year lack-of-motivation !

Looks like they may have drilled holes through the chassis number. I'm sure they actually thought that would suffice in place of welding the shortened chassis back together? Sadly, work like that really isn't that unusual on dune buggies. It probably has something to do with getting it for $300. Have you considered a Berrien or Barrett chassis? |

Yes BL3Manx, I did think of getting a frame.
But in my mind, is that the way it was ? 1970ish?
This buggy was a kit, not "built" by George Barris, but something people could buy. And then build themselves.
So.......I rescued this. I needed a frame, and title.
YES, Juckyard, Police check, DMV,to get title. That old owner was great! He never knew what happen to it. He gave it to a guy for some house painting.
I did tell him it still be Yellow.

Yes Standard, but in a lot worse shape than I had hoped for.
New floor pans, that I did count on.
Only saving grace, the tunnel was solid.
But frame head had to be salvaged from the butcherd frame.
Parts RUST

Far from perfect, but I like it better than the bumper brackets.
I did found out that I have lost all my pics of the frame build.
I will say that i boxed in the pan with 1 1/4" including welded in nuts.
As I said, I had to reuse the frame head from the original frame.
Then off to the sand blaster.......
Primer, paint, and bed liner on the bottom.
4" drop and discs all the way around
And OLD cragars, from E-Bay
Almost caught up to date, some more to come.

My wish is to put it back at least as near as I can to the look of 1970.
Still need help with the gas cap
My hope, is it will be done by this time, next year.
Again Thanks for Looking, it does help.
Bill

I really like the body shape, what does it look like inside the box? Are there shelves, seats, or nothing? _________________ If I knew what I was doing; I wouldn't be building a buggy! |

Good questions about the back. Let me bounce these ideas around out there.
Yes, it is just a square box in the back. I'm thinking stained wood floor, (i.e., old pickup) and just doing headliner material on the rest.
Also, just for thought, I’m thinking of glassing some steel in the sides. Just enough, to hold a magnetic sign. Just incase I would like to whore it out on the weekends. It might look nice sitting in front of a new restaurant or liquor store
And YES there will be an 8-track,,,,anyone have some Beach boy tapes?
Thanks Again for any, and all ideas,
Bill
(shag would be nice, but the vacuming, I don't think so) _________________ Back to work after a 6 year lack-of-motivation !
