I cleaned it all up, put some teflon thread seal tape on and reinstalled it.

If I recall correctly, teflon affects the ground of the sender so if the pressure does get too low, it won't actually turn on... I do know some guys at work used it on the mower sparkplugs, came to us when the stupid things would start backfiring and stumbling Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't considered that!

I just went out to the car with my digital ohm meter.
Touched the leads together to verify operation, complete circuit!
Touched the body of the switch and the engine case....... Same complete circuit!

All is good! No leak.......good ground.

Thanks!

SCORE!!!!! Smile

I was at the All Air Cooled Gathering in Flanders NJ today which has a great flea market with it.

I've been missing or have had the wrong mirrors on my car since I've owned it.
I haven't wanted to spring for new ones for they aren't cheap! I've made do and have been "happy".......but always on the look out.

Well I scored big today!
The proper convertible inside mirror........ Needs cleaning and some paint..... $15.00 Smile

I also lacked a Right side mirror but again, the $$'s are huge to purchase one....... A good used one for $20.00 Smile

Even though I'm trying to sell the car....... I just can't stop "improving" it! No money to be made on this one! Rolling Eyes

I also found that my asking price of $4,900 is amazingly fair! There were two other similar Convertibles there for sale, $9000 and $9700!
Not obviously better cars either! Wink

You want the USED mirrors! The new/reproduction outside mirrors for 'Vert's are crud, even the ones on VWoA packaging!
I've got a box full of crap mirrors from my convertible restoration.

The highs are only in the upper 40's now maybe the low 50's. the night are icy and cold!

It's a sad sad sad day..... And yes, it was really tight from having been folded for months! Don't do that kids! You should always Fold the top up after every use.........yeah .......right!

Really inspirational thread dave, wish I had the same space but it makes me wantt go go out there and do stuff to my beetle too. I have the same rust issues on the bottom of the doors too... That will have to wait for years yet!

Fantastic articles, thank you.
I'm seriously impressed with the door repairs.

Just a suggestion. I found using gardening Strimmer Cord. Really really strong, it will never snap and is very slippy. Slides over metal and rubber making fitting windows very easy. Only problem is getting a good grip on the cord. As a simple solution To it slipping in my hands is to tie knots in the ends of the cord to allow extra grip.

Thanks for the kind words!

I'm apprehensive, tomorrow someone is coming to look and possibly buy my Bug.

It's all good, it's time for it to move on so I can focus and free up garage space................. But it's my Bug!! Crying or Very sad

My granddaughter will probably hate me in about seven years............

Well............

I'm Bug-less..........

Sold, gone to a good home. Valentines day gift for his wife.

I HATE selling cars!!
I probably talked too much, told him my every perception of the flaws, and my thoughts on tasks needing attention......... that didn't scare him off!

I hope it is as much a source for joy for them as it was for me.

So ends my 1974 Beetle build thread.

Now...... Focus on the Vanagon!
I think that I saw The Ghia smiling just a little bit right now........ One step closer to a rebirth!

Dang. I would have a hard time selling my bugs unless I had a more desirable one waiting in the wings.

The Bug wasn't the final prize. This was a diversion, the come hither call of a lonely Bug looking for some love.
It ended up not being a long term relationship!

Even the Camper Van is a Johnny come lately diversion!

The final prize is the 69 Ghia sitting next to my shed.

Good luck with that. I just really enjoy verts now that I have one, but I could see myself selling my 78 if there was a 62 vert that I would want to add to the family.

Actually, this will be combined with a 1970 Ghia Convertible taking the better 69 pan and drivetrain along with other bits and ending up with what I'm calling a 69 1/2 convertible. Putting in the smaller 69 lights but having the newer glass back window. The 69 1/2 is actually a model identification step point, I'm just making my own is all!

This is the goal, my wife's dream car.... Without the ugly bra!

Just curious...why all the negative vibes about restoring a super beetle convertible? They make great, eye catching cars. They might not be rare, priceless gems, but who cares about that?

Some guys just view any Super Beetle as the "redheaded stepchild". To each his own I guess. We all have our likes and dislikes. Fact is 99% of the general population that doesn't visit this site can't tell the difference between a standard and a super. They just see a classic beetle. My experience has shown that supers get just as much of a positive reaction as standards. Granted, any car that is older will get more of a "wow factor", so a 50's or 60's beetle will get more attention, but I believe that goes for any make of car.
