Hi,
I am new to the form, this is my first post. I am hoping I am posting in the correct area. I have wanted to buy a VW bus since I was 12 years old, I am now 37, so the time has come.
Before I start looking, I want to learn more about the different models, and options. I am looking to buy a 1967 bus or older
What are the top two VW bus books to buy? I would like general information and then also restoration advice.
Thank you for your time and your response.

there are only about a dozen english language bus specific books.
a couple books that I would consider required reading:

VOLKSWAGEN, NINE LIVES LATER. Dan Post. ISBN 0-911160-42-6 _________________ .

These are my 2 favorites...
VW Transporter and Microbus, spec guide 1950 - 1967, David Eccles, 2002
And second: VW Bus, the first 50 years, Keith Seume and Michael Steinke, 1999

Those books posted previously are good ones...for a pretty good explanation and illustration of changes throughout the split bus years, this one isn't bad:
http://www.amazon.com/Original-VW-Bus-Laurence-Meredith/dp/1870979842
I have yet to see a book that covers much on the topic of restoration advice. The Samba is, as noted, the best 'book' for that.
As an aside, if the FAQ's alone were printed in book form, how many pages would it be, and could one person carry it? |

If Lind suggests those two, get those two.
I like the nine lives book, don't have the other. Frankly I think you should get any/every split bus book you can, each has it's own flavor and different information and the time you spend reading and enjoying them over the years will make the small investment worthwhile. There are a couple that are crap however you can sell them to the next noob.
All of them combined won't be as helpful as the Samba, when I sit down for a serious read of the Samba I copy and paste a lot of info and pics and print everything into an organized notebook.
3 cheers for EB

Thank you to everyone who gave their suggestions for books to read. The suggestions and pictures of the books helped out as I searched online for a few of the books. Can't wait to start reading them.
Thanks,
