found the hide a key set while aggressively cleaning. curious how long these have been stashed away

rehung the second spare
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

also
cleaned the engine bay
swapped out the 6 volt starter
rebushed for 12 volt starter
reworked hard start relay for 12 volt
removed and cleaned the gas tank
started pulling cross shaft

all in all a good day. everything that keeps popping up for replacement or repair magically keeps resolving itself from my bins of spares and hoarded trinkets. some buses fall apart but this one seems to be falling together.

Great find!

Great stuff- I just followed your links to your old projects too + got garage envy from the numerous mentions of useful parts + all of the work you've managed to carry out!

what's the reason for that throttle hand control?
And especially why put it on the shifter?

i am missing my right leg and work the clutch and brake with my left leg. i figured since my hand is always on the shifter it was a great place for the throttle.there is also a line lock (electric) i use for the rear brake it just isnt installed yet

reinstalling the original spare mount did three things

filled the open holes into the nose (from the spare tire holder originally)
covered the collision damage that is there
gave me a place to put the second spare

personally if it is going to be there i want it a few inches higher but those are things to focus on once it is running and driving better

had to build a puller to get the arm off of the cross shaft. my guess is someone had hammered at it in the past and mushroomed the shaft. the clearancing for the 12 volt went smoothly and tomorrow night it should all be reassembled.

sorry to hear that Embarassed
from my experience, I always have to "lean" over to shift (maybe because I'am pretty tall?)
so maybe your setup might be more ergonomical with an extended shifter?

keeping your hand on shifter after gear is selected cause stuff to wear and is the major reason 4th will start popping out of gear. not shifting rest your hand on seat or other place. please.

Sancho the position isnt bad i wonder though if that is because all my split buses with this style conversion have been early with the shifter closer to the seat. the conversion in my bay was odd with the more forward shifter position.
dont worry bill the system is added to the existing equipment so once rolling i work the gas with my foot. had to keep it this way so i could free up my hands for texting and drinking coffee Laughing
