|
|
Hey guys! I finally removed the frame from my '79 convertible to have it sandblasted (actually, glass-blasted) and then powder coated.
The guy who is doing the work looked at it, and he's a little concerned about the hard plastic rings in some of the joints. (Well, we think they're plastic - they may be rubber?) Regardless, he thinks they could melt in the oven post-coat. He was pretty sure they'd be fine since they seemed hard and durable enough, but he's just being cautious.
Anyone had experience with this? |

powdercoat oven can be up to 400 F inside. i wouldn't put anything plastic or rubber in there. _________________

[air cooled vw's] are no longer suitable for the general public. The owner has to be be able to maintain the car. And that is after fixing all the deferred maintenance items and ill-conceived modifications. If you can't do those things you are pretty much screwed. |

Then any guesses on how people are powder coating their frames? Are they disassembling the whole thing? |

Hi Lance,
A while ago you had your cabriolet top frame powder coated and you discussed it her on TheSamba. Did the hinge washers cope with the heat in the end? I ask as I'm just about to have my 1302 karmann cabriolet top frame powder coated and have the same concern.
Regards
Graham

If you've already removed the frame just take the rest of the pieces off as well. You've already gone so far. It's only a little further. Then you know you get every nook and crevice.
There is a Body and Paint forum here. For these questions it might be better suited there. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
