Hi guys,
I've just purchased a kombi to have a bash at restoring, before I can get started I need to get the sliding door open. I think the problem lies with the rear latch, when I pull on the bottom cable I can see the mechanism move on the inside on the latch but nothing is happening on the outside i.e. the hook that goes over the bar isn't moving... I've tried a screwdriver but it doesn't watch to budge? |

2 wildly different mechanisms involved here, knowing what year it is and some photos would help alot. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

From the inside, give the rear section of the sliding door a light nudge with your shoulder while pulling it open and it should do the trick. _________________ 1978 Westfalia ~ Stock 2.0L FI with solid lifters.

Got the bloody thing off in the end -took me about an hour. I ended up unbolting the latch that's attached to the body... Nightmare. You're right busdaddy, I'll attach pics next time and the year! I'll be posting a lot more very soon as the van had an engine swap and a rewire that was 90% completed when I purchased it.... I need to fit the new coil, I think the wiring is there, I'll post pics when I'm up to that bit. Thanks for the advice! |
