I think this is pretty neat. Its a spare parts swapping thread where payment is good karma. I think the bays forum could use one of these threads
Rules:
*You may NOT receive an item and then sell it. Use it, give it back, or karma it again. Don't be that guy.
**You may NOT request any items. Either it comes up or it doesn't.

Ok, I'll bite.
I have a (1) bumper guard for a square late model bumper somewhere. No idea if it's for the front or back. Take it off my hands. Man I hate having that thing around. It's huge and I have an early.
Also set of hubcaps (pick up only) in fair shape.
If this is still here I still have it.

So the point of this thread is to get karma by giving things away that you don't need. Generally van related or connected.
Karma idea:

I agree with the idea in general but am thinking that instead of using a thread as the medium for the trade it would be more efficient to use something more like our classified section which is broken down by vehicle type and is searchable. Otherwise, how could you find what you need in a thread that might have grown to 30 pages or more?
I need rear brake drums for a 1970 bus and a left rear backing plate. I also need a wiper motor for the same vehicle. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I see what you mean here. On one hand, we have the 'search this topic...' bar at the top of the thread. On the other, I don't think I bunch of seperately listed classifieds would be quite as fun _________________ -Tony

It would of course be up to everettb to make any changes to the web site regarding a parts for trade section. I like the idea of somehow using accrued credits instead of money. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

ive got a few things i dont need.mainly ive got some dash knobs that are in pretty good shape that im not using.1 alarm knob,1headlight knob,1 hazard knob, and 3-4 others i cant think of. Im currently in snohomish,WA and would be willing to trade knobs for some knoledge.
my bus is currently not running and i could use some pointers on the double relay wiring and how to remove the gas tank without removing the engine _________________ Victim of Volkswagen Virus |

FYI: the split bus forum also has an "OG parts for trade" thread. T3 probably too.
for this thread to take hold it needs a better title
BTW:
i need a westy interior sliding door handle.
i have a rebuilt 205S (T4, FI SVDA) distributor that i'm looking to get rid of. _________________ 71 Ghia A/S - 88 Van A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T |

I think this is a most awesome idea! I will have to look and see what I can get off my hands.....does it have to be VW bus specific? Can it be for any other car? _________________ -1973 Volkswagen Bus Westy (Weekender)

Regarding "Karma" - Reddit.com has an excellent method of karma giving and taking, it is probably custom coded however, and not likely usable here.
Regarding thread name - A rename of "Pay it forward" would be easily memorable.
Regarding a more formal method of trade - the samba is pretty big, and our sub-forum here has a number of "usual folks" - you know who you are. I think we would be better off just keeping this thread here, and not involving the rest of the VW community unless they step in.
Regarding parts: I have a set of rear pop-top hinges for a 1970 bus that could go. I'm in San Francisco, PM me if you are interested.
Love this idea. Love this community. |

I could certainly use it. Would you mind checking when you have a chance to see if it is a front or rear? I need rear. Would hate to call dibs and it be for the front. Thanks. _________________ My Bus Restoration Blog

I'm stopping on my way to BugJam to strip a '78 of front beam and other parts. The guy has a '70 being parted. I can strip the parts for you and let you know how much he wants. My labor would be the Karma, besides I took a heap of metal out of S.D., least I could do is ship some back. |

This is a fantastic idea. I'm still kindof a bus noob so I have no parts to donate, but I will keep this thread in mind if I ever do! _________________ 1970 Westfalia Pop-Top |

That's very nice of you Erik. I'm probably heading out this afternoon to a VW Recycling Yard for a wiper motor. If they don't have the brake parts I'll get back to you. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I also like the idea, but only if we implement the 2nd rule, **You may NOT request any items. Either it comes up or it doesn't. Otherwise, I see that as turning into nothing more than a WTB ad in the classifieds section, which ruins the whole point of such a thread in my opinion. _________________ 1978 Westfalia |
