As I am (still) busy with the wiring for my Lolette buggy, I want to install a female trailer plug to the front bumper of it. The idea would be that when towing the buggy with an A-frame, a male-to-male trailer wire connection between the tow car and the buggy would ensure that all the critical lights (park, brake, turn) of the tow car would work through the buggy so that it can be seen from behind the buggy. I have done this before, and it works pretty well. Below is a diagram by the SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) showing how the wiring should be done for a standard 7-core trailer wire. The image reflects looking at the male trailer plug from behind. Normally we bridge terminals 5 and 7, and terminal 2 can be used for a rear fog light, if required. I am just a bit curious - is the wiring the same in other countries of the world as well?

We have two different standards, its dependent on what type of terminals is in connectors, the blade style connector (trailer-RV style in US) or round terminal style (big rig truck style)....

http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

In US we are still stuck in the combined stop/turn using single element in bulb where rest of world (I'm guessing) have separated turn and stop lamp functions...

I did same thing you are doing.... Have a "umbilical" from tow vehicle to buggy that disconnects from tow vehicle and buggy when not in use.... "Umbilical" stays permanently on tow bar...

It's the same for the UK, 7 pins like this seperceded 5 pins around 40 years ago, but seem themselves to be on their way out now for bigger ones. They're still the most common though. I wired my old GP buggy up as you suggest and it worked well, I put the socket under one of the buggy's front wings.
