At 5 years now, I'm betting your cherry has been popped!?! |
A few years after I bought this single I found my panel. It was pretty much in driving condition and the few things that its needed has provided me a good platform for learning. It's nice to have a running driving bus that just needs maintenance and a few upgrades as you're still enjoying it.

Are there any other car enthusiasts who strip paint to the original finish on parts that have been worked hard and show scratches, bumps, dents, dings and rust and when they are finished take a step back, sigh contentedly and whisper "Perfect"? I think those bumpers are absolutely beautiful and will look smashing on your SC. And once the resprays are off the rest of the truck will look just as good.
Are we just weird? |
Thank you cru62! The stripping is definitely a labor of love. Each part of this bus that I've stripped has taken a different method...no two are alike so I don't spend too much time trying to make something work that may have previously worked elsewhere. It's very satisfying to see the look I want beginning to show through the respray. I think I've lost sleep thinking about this bus going to the paint shop and the owner telling them to paint everything that's red...white and everything that's white...red. Even the wheels were red. _________________

Back at it...Now you see it, now you don't. It looks like I'm using 409 to remove the white, but it's Motsenbocker's 4 in there. So far I'm happy with the results of everything I've stripped back. The bald spot on the upper right corner is from the gas welded prop bracket.

That's looking great! The picture on the previous page showing where you stripped the white from the driver's side window frame is quite impressive, I know how tedious this work is. Bumpers look great too. I love SWR buses. _________________ Brandon |

Thanks Brandon...I go pretty slow even if the respray is coming off fast. I'm glad I don't have a primer coat to deal with and the spots that didn't get scuffed well make it all the easier. The vertical surfaces are a PITA though! The doors and gates will take a lot less time if they are off of the truck and a rotisserie would make everything else but the nose & rear easier. The Motsenbockers Graffiti remover I'm using is the consistency of water and doesn't stay in one place too long.
I'm done stripping the treasure chest door. I have some metal work to repair on inside near the latch area and of course it needs new hinge plates. I'll post some pics once all that is done. _________________

Yes, I still have it...No, I don’t work on it too often.
I found some time this weekend to remove the white repaint from the passenger door... _________________
