That is one slick set up. I like how you added the bleeder on the top of the intercooler...I always thought they should come that way. Keep it up ! |

I believe it was an option. M469 I think. My Swedish Syncro Doka has the spare under the seat. _________________ Currently:

Syncro 16 maybe but mine is underneath like all 14" syncros. Same as the 14" syncro dokas that i have seen on this side of the pond. |

Oh, all Syncro Crewcabs have the panel removed to store the spare wheel. The usual problem is that with the rear seat frame in place, the biggest wheel/tyre combo you can get into it is a 205/14.

Not quite welchmaster. You are welcome to come over and touch it if you wish.
No rags or paper towels needed to work on this baby.

Hey Bman,
You can remove the plastic handles. I did it and so can you.
Give me a call so I can talk you through it.
Here are some pictures to help, but you still need some more info on how to beat on them and not destroy them. You need to drill a hole that doesn't go through to unlock the handle.
The latches were sand blasted, nickel plated and them powder coated.
This is the best way to do it if you don't want the west coast salty air rusting them up again. The plating is about $50 minimum charge. Send them here and I can get it done for you at a minimum charge as well.
Tony

Congratulations on getting your engine in and running, quite an impressive project you have going.
Some questions I have are, how did you paint your rear bed latches? I see you have them as all black, I like that option and wish to do the same for my Doka paint project. Did you powder coat them, or some other process? I hear the powder coat is still paint and will rub off on high use areas. Also did you remove your latch handles first? If so how?
Thanks. _________________ ~Bryan

Congrats on the maiden voyage, that is one beautiful vehicle.
I got a set of the hydraulic mounts, they are really quality pieces, I'll be proud to have them on my van. Stoked to try them out. _________________ '86 Syncro CHC Top AAZ Turbodiesel

Thanks for all the compliments fellas. Yes it's nerve wrecking when you pull out of the garage and drive a truck that has been torn down completely.
I was sweating when I turned the key. My wife and daughter were taking the videos and they were nervous as well. Thank God this is going as good as it is. With all the help here on Samba and other sites it made it possible.
I'm trying to get it on a mag before I drive it in the dirt.
And on another note. Here are some more things I've developed for my truck that I am selling.
Gauge pods and hydraulic motor mounts.
If you are interested I have been selling the hydraulic mounts for a while now, but the gauge pods I just got made.
Let me know if you are interested.
I'll keep on posting on further progress with my DoKa resto.
Thanks again
Tony

Took it out for the first run today and it drives AWESOME! Plenty of power as soon as the revs climb a little bit but when the turbo kicks in it pulls really hard . The steering was squirrely because it's not aligned yet. Scared the beejevees out of me when I rocked it back and forth.
I see lots of smoke when I pull hard. Is that normal for an AAZ or does it need braking in. The intercooler is not yet hooked up. Still work in progress.
Couldn't wait to drive it up and down the road. The gearing is perfect and highway ready. Nothing fell out and after the first run, I took it to the gas station and added $20 of diesel.
17 months of work so far.
So far so good. Now comes the seats and the head liner work.

Looks great! Congratulations. The first drive is always mixture of feelings, excitement and a bit of nervous apprehension that sometime could go wrong or been overlooked. That pull at 3:30 looked great. The gearing and power looked spot on. Smoke is a bit excessive (might make some of the Cummins guys a bit jealous) but I would fiddle too much with the settings until you intercool, that is, unless you don't plan that anytime soon. |
