my hair is very long, 4" from my waist line, and it might be time for me to have a hair cut, talking it over with mrs rubbachicken
she suggested my donating it to a cancer charity so it can be used to make a hair piece for someone _________________ lucy our westy

Locks of Love
I know someone who gets an annual haircut specifically to donate to this charity. IMO, it is a very worthy cause. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

x 4. My sister who passed from ovarian cancer had a wig donated to her by Locks of Love. My mom cuts her hair every other year and donates it to them in her honor. _________________ 72 Super Beetle

It is a very worthy cause, I know people who have done it but my lack of hair excludes me. |

When I cut off my hippy hair back in '02, I donated it to Locks of Love. _________________ nothing

I've been told that mine couldn't be used because it's gray. Anyone heard that? I'm growing it regardless, but it would be nice to be able to help someone. |

yup, they won't take a donation if it's more than 5% grey, reason is that they say it's more brittle and will not take color as well _________________ lucy our westy

I guess 95% would be out of the question. One more reason that getting old sucks. |

they aren't SUPER strict on that 5% rule around here. in know i'm at least or more than that level. but my hair is super thick and curly. i donated a coupla years ago and they were glad for it. actually the lady who cut it said if it didn't meet the minimum 10" and allow me a decent cut she wouldn't do it until it would. i told her to do whatever if it was that close even if it meant shaving it. turns out it was just long enough to meet and me go back the style i had before growing it out.
i've been considering shooting for another round before i get "to gray". i know i'm probably going to end up just like my dad. he's in his 60s and still has a FULL THICK head of hair but it's been a nice silvery white for pretty close to the last 20 of those years..
the worst part of growing it out is that 3-6" or so long stage. as i said my hair is thick and curly and i pretty much have a fro for a few months shaved my years worth of beard growth recently. cut the hair and grew my beard out for over a year then shaved the beard recently. maybe this time i'll grow both back and go full on mountain man look hahahha...ken.... _________________ ITMC

October 10th donated 11" for, what would have been, Hamburgerbrads birthday. I chose Pantene. Just got a thank you letter in the mail. They had less restrictions, only required 8", and it goes to women and kids with cancer. Wigs for Kids wanted 12" and Locks of Love wanted 10". Took me 2 years and just might go for 3 years next and go with Wigs for Kids. _________________ "It is EASIER to customize a car then it is to RESTORE one"

I've been growing my hair out all year. Last trim was back in March '11 and last really short buzz cut was November '10. It's around 9" long now and super thick. I have really good hair genes. My grandfather was in his 70's and only had a few grays. When I decide to chop this off I've already decided it's going directly to charity. Not sure when I'll chop it though... it's quite warm in the winter _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb

Nice thread and WOW that kids that young are doing it. Re the grey hair thingie; I can see that it's no good if it's brittle but certainly there must be grey haired people needing locks too? Some people go grey/white at a very young age and I doubt that their hair is brittle but I don't know. I think it is all GREAT! _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
