i'm working on a deal to buy some buses, this is one of them. its rough as hell but would be really cool if it got restored. i dont have the time and its rough enough to be a parts bus. my question is should i just part it out or put it up in the classifieds and try to find someone willing to take on such a major project.
the bus is a 62 i think and its a swivel seat kombi that had factory safaris and still has most of the rear panels and board headliner. no actual swivel seat though.

Early SS Kombi in any condition... DESIRABLE! I'm sure you already have more than a few PMs on it. If it was closer, I'd be all over it. It's also got the rare cargo area paneling.
Who's gonna' get it? |

Well, honestly, doest hurt to try to give the bus a good home with a classifieds ad. No takers then part it out. Plus the bus rescue squad has now spoken above ^^ _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I???? |

my options are this,
1- i can buy it and part whats left (not much)
2- i can leave it to rot for a few more years before the land gets sold then it meets the crusher
3- i can buy it and try my hand at flipping, i will have to install a front beam and some wheels to make it roll so i will only sell it for what ive got into it and maybe make a very small profit for my time.
4- or once i make my deal and get the buses i want from the place i can leave it and let everyone else who is interested make contact with the owner and work out their own deal. _________________ Missouri Micros |

If you can get it at a "package deal" price, buy it and flip it. Someone will want to buy it for sure. It looks solid enough to save. I've seen buses built worse than that on here and other places. Just don't let it get crushed or rot away. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

the problem is im not getting a package deal, every bus has its own price, i can buy this bus for the amount the guy wants then turn around and resale it to someone and get my money back. if i do buy it im talking a gamble. if i was getting a package deal i would worry about it. sadly, almost all the buses out there are in this shape. i just dont want to buy this thing and get stuck with it.then again i'm sure i can move it because its going to be cheap. _________________ Missouri Micros

I have installed beams or trannys in buses, hauled them out of fields and then sold them as rolling projects in the neighborhood of $1000, and made a few bucks. These were generally rusty 67 kombis, or plain Jane panels, not SS Kombis. A bus with a stylee M-code plate like that would be worth more.
A SS Kombi is a pretty rare and desirable bus.
As such I'd say get off your ass, save the cheap ratty project and pass it on to someone who can fix it up. You said it's cheap, so it'd pay you for a day of dirty but fun work and the parts you bolt on, plus you'ld get the satisfaction of saving it.
I'd be bugging you for the location if I was nearby. I love that sort of stuff. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

those hardboard panels inside are factory, and should be saved since they are really really uncommon.
the rest of the bus, not so much. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

FWIW- Looks like a '63 rather than a '62. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

If you consider yourself an ambassador of the hobby it should be removed...either by you or try to find someone who will do something with it...even if you part it and rid yourself of the unusables it will go on to live another day, even if only in part...to walk away and secure it's fate to the iron oxides of Mother Earth, IMO would not be be good...Perhaps someone such as an artist could even repurpose the parts the VW crowd had no use for... _________________

I bet if it still had its swivel seat there would be more excitement. How many swivels are out there without there seat? The panels look great from what we can see. It would be nice if someone would let there seat get re-popped. Check in those other buses for that seat you never know. _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

013 Middle and rear seats plus panels in the cargo area
178 Engine prepared for arctic climates, heavy duty insulation in engine area
193 Semaphore turn signals - red ?
199 Swivel driver's seat
510 Upper divider between cab and cargo area
I would appreciate more pictures of the interior panels in the cargo area.
It looks like it is still there on the one cargo door, pic? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Might as well drag it out, Billy. Clean it up and pass it on...
