|
|
The custom car market has been exploding in size over the past ten years and custom wheel makers are everywhere these days.
You can get wheels made to any custom size you want now, which got me thinking - what would be the perfect wheel for us?
People usually settle for thing that are 'close enough to stock' - but have we been finding other offsets or overall diameter changes Vs stock to perform better for our busses?
This treads dangerously close to Tire Sticky thread territory, but we are usually fighting to find tires to fit the wheels we already have. What if you could run whatever sized wheel you wanted as a starting point?
Or has nothing in technology changed since these busses were built - that running with a different width/size/offset would give you any added benefit?
SEMA is going on right now, and there must be 40 different wheel manufacturers out there with the ability to setup their designs in nearly any size/offset and bolt pattern we want. Not saying it would be cheap, but is it even worth doing? |

Honestly?
I'd like something either like a stock steelie or a Sunraysia steel wheel. 15", possibly 16" but the tyres I want might be too high profile. As for offset the stocks are close-ish already. If I could steal maybe an extra 1/2" inside and out that'd be nice. _________________ Vehicle: 1975 Special order delivery walkthrough panel based pop-top camper (LCA / Sunliner). I like the steel style wheels as well, and the custom off-road guys do make steels in pretty much any size and setup you could want.
15 inch wheels with a bit of a wider stance would be nice, or even stagger them to put the wider ones out back and go closer to a stock width up front.
for a custom wheel that someone probably already makes, though who knows if they can do it in any size someone would want - I dig this style a lot:
they are old Shelby Cal 500's, which are 15x7's. |
