Buggys are meant to be fun. Practicallity, and being doable should not enter the equation.
I have 1 question. What does France desire? |

Tom I wish I had your talent and skills, when I said doable, I meant: doable by me with my skills and available ressources up here.
I have not been home, so no I have not done any work on it. |

When you drive it as much as we do, you want some practicality.
France checks this thread 2 or 3 times a day, I'm not going to hear the end of it now with your question, thanks a lot! lol |

Just come up with the ideas and let me worry about the rest. _________________ Google this.

That statement, without a doubt, has got to be one of the most ridiculous choice of words that I have ever read here on thesamba.com. I can appreciate different points of view on this forum, but Joe (nightmanx11), you and I must be in different solar systems (and I am thankful for that). Vincent and France are best known for their ability to take the dune buggy build concept (which, in most cases, involves vehicles that are mostly driven close to home) and allow themselves a reach that has involved numerous and successful travels throughout North America. To even think that "practicallity" (sp?) and "being doable" would not be serious considerations for their next build totally blows my mind.
I swear, I had to read and re-read your words several times just to make sure that I understood your statement to be serious. _________________ Gary David Holbrook

We thought about it a little but we pride ourselves (by that I mean France mostly as I have lost most of mine ) in being able to pack and travel in a shortened dune buggy for up to 19 days at a time. We're really set on getting Bruce's Kickout SS.
After last night's comments on who's buggy we were building I was prepared to surrender... But, as it turns out, France is not ready to take her descision on the color. Who's the bad guy now?! Seriously, why are we making it this difficult on ourselves?! - I have no idea. Let's just pick a color we both like and place the order already! Hopefully we both come to a descision this week-end. |

You are.
Don’t get trapped in reality. She is and will always be right. If France does not like it, you will never live it down. She is a wonderful women but…”Been there did that.”
This buggy has to be done faster than 3 years. I want to come up and help with the body and chassis. Do you have a place for me (and maybe Dee) to sleep? _________________ Google this.

Thanks for the offer but as you may recall, the buggy is at my parents and I only get to work on it week-ends.
It would be difficult to find you lodging that would be confortable for the both of you.
We made progress this week-end!
I told France that she had to get the car in the shop 1st!
After a few minutes, I got the tractor out and we pulled it in the shop.
Started to remove the carpet and the PO left me a few suprises!
The seperation took some cutting...
Of course, I forgot the last 2 bolts on the front beam...
Then France worked the hoist and seperation began
The good news is the rear is pretty solid (for an North-East survivor) but the front needs a lot of work. I'll need to replace the head end and get some floors. The beam is new.
I got the floors off as well.
Felt good to get some work done. |

That's a nice looking Baja body. I'm sure you can find it a good home somewhere. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

In this case John, looks are deceiving... I would call this one beyond repairable... There are tons of poorly fabricated patches and plenty of rust cancer.
The whole body was put together with pop rivets and for some unknown reason, screen door netting. The glass seems originall VW and I'll be happy to offer that but the rest will end up being scraped. |

France,
Have you picked a color? Going plain or metalflake?
You can get color charts from Meadowbrook Glitter. There is an array of beautiful colors. That is what I did. Then I told the Meyers the color I wanted.

I've said this before, but I think it is so cool that both of you work on this stuff together. In most households, the proposition to spend the weekend in the garage together would be met with either laughter or stony silence. You two are well matched. |

Hi Kathleen, we've settled on the Gun Metal Grey. The idea of going with custom color is tempting but it's difficult to immagine the result on the full car. |

France is a trooper, she's commited to helping and documenting the build. She has waned me though, she'll be wearing surgical gloves and a full overall! |

The gunmetal grey is beautiful in the sunlight! You'll be happy with that color.

Gary,
Watching you chase someone around the forum picking apart their posts was comical at first, but now it's getting old. I know, if I noticed it, I am sure other people have noticed it.
People come to the forum to voice their opinion in regards to dune buggies, nobody comes to these forums to get attacked by someone with inconsequential statements or lessons in spelling or grammer.
Remember, the topic is "France's buggy" not "NightManx"s" opinion. _________________ Jerry...

More progress today, temperature was below 30°F and I opted to work in my small un-insulated garage.
Still got some progress.
This should be fine with a little hot glue... lol
This side may require more glue and maybe a little duct tape!
Got scared whne I saw this, at 1st I worried the torsion housing may have been hit but as it turns out, it's the rear floor brace that moved forward. Measured it and the torsion is straight.
Another PO suprise, the top torsion plate hole was drilled to remove a presumably broken bolt. Very little precaution was taken and they drilled way off and part of the old bolt was actually still in the threads. Not sure what I'm going to do here. Thinking helicoil...
Tonight everything is disasembled. The tunnel will be takled next and I'll start to fab a replacement piece for the pedal assembly.
I alreadt ordered a head end and new floors but as this is Canada, it takes almost a month to receive them. |

isnt there a Berrien dealer up there? Seems to me the amount of work needed tp fix what you have there you would be way ahead with a new chassis. _________________ Thunderbug by Bugformance 1969 |

There's a Berrien dealer about 7 hours away: John's Bug Shop in Niagara
Falls. To be honest, it's not uncommon for a Canadian survivor to be in this shape. Once the fram head is replaced and the floors are put on, it's going to be a solid base.
There's something to be said about having a titled donor up here in Quebec. Getting a new frame titled is next to impossible now in Quebec and I would have to be creative if we went this route. |
