Great concept, not only to save space and fit easier, but probably less rattles back there! |

This reminds me of what I picked up a while ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Squish-2-qt-Collapsible-Cola...h+strainer
My van is out of commission at the moment so I haven't been able to try it, but my thought was to chop off the handle to make it even smaller for storage and to help it fit a bit better in the sink.
I'll report back when I get the chance to try it.
Love the kettle idea btw. My full-sized, all metal kettle is probably the biggest headache of all the cookware to store in my van. _________________ previous:

That kettle and pressure cooker are not on my list!
My kettle is the biggest PAIN to have in the westy, I use it twice sometimes three a day so I need it. |

OK, Rooney's a great dog, but please don't tell me that you brew Cappuccino for him when camping. I mean I know he gets pancakes while I'm eating cold cereal, but really, I am going to develop a complex... _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

Wanted to let anyone know that's interested, K-mart has (had) a 2.75 qt cast iron dutch oven for $20. I bought the last one in my local store, it seems pretty nice. Used both it and my old cast iron skillet this weekend. Everyone who has been saying cast iron is the best, you are right!!! |

Great thread!
Large cast iron pan. I use this a LOT. Really big stainless pot/lid. Small stainless pot/lid. 2 Coleman blue bowls, 2 plastic plates. Paper plates. Except for small lid, all this nests and fits in top shelf of forward cabinet. Large lid fits cast iron pan and "salad" bowl I boil water in for wash up. Good sharp knife. Small plastic cutting board. Cheap rolling type knife sharpener though crude, works fine.
Small fine cheese grater mainly for parmesan. Stainless wine glasses. Various cutlery. Bottle opener!
Have yet to use the large stainless pot. Thought it might do for a small "drunken" whole chicken (cornish?) dish. It doesn't add much weight though.
Need: small stainless kettle with lid that stays put. Boiling water in small pot not the safest idea but works fine.

Better late than never...
No need to cut the handle as I had originally thought, and the thing packs up nice and small. Works great for rinsing veggies but the holes are a bit large for skinny pasta. For $10 (found on sale at a grocery store) I couldn't be happier. _________________ previous:

Hi folks,
It must have been destiny. Perhaps we found the answer before we found the question.
I think this product was designed specifically for the Westfalia Camper.
How many of you carry two pots, a frying pan, two lids, two strainers, four plates, four bowls, four cups, and a wash basin in your Westy? That seems to be enough cooking and dining gear, right?
Boy, that would take up a lot of room, right? We could leave some of it out! Think of the space it would take!
It would be hard to wash that much stuff in that tiny sink! Are you nuts?!?
http://www.gsioutdoors.com/products/pdp/bugaboo_camper $99 USD
We had this Bugaboo Camper set for years and hardly used it while tent camping since we have a Jetboil. Now that we own a Westy, I think it will see a lot more use!
Here's a photo of all that stuff tucked away in the last place you'd ever think you could store that much cooking gear:
I would recommend getting another collapsible handle since you could be cooking with two pots at the same time. They collapse and store inside one of the cups.
Strainer built into the lid.
Also, the gray insulation around some of the cups makes them "mugs" for hot beverages and soups.
Color coded so everyone knows who uses which one! Less dishwashing!
Hope that helps someone!
I think we'll get a cast iron heat diffuser or two to make these things work even better. |

We have this set (not red though)
http://www.buzzillions.com/reviews/t-fal-ingenio-20-piece-red-cookware-set-reviews#Description
It's pretty cool and works well, overkill for the van though. If I did it again I'd get one of the MSR or GSI backpackers 2 place kits.
It is pretty cool to have fitted lids for the pots, but saran wrap would do almost as good and fit more things. _________________ 86 syncro CHC, NorthWesty subbie 2.5, decoupler, locker, custom interior, 225/75r16 Duratrack's on CLK's, Toyo cabin heater, ARB fridge, 300w Zamp Solar, Gowesty bumpers/skid/rails, Fiama awning

I just got this set from sports academy. Price was right, and although I did consider the GSI set at first, (or was it MSR), I concluded this would work better for what we need.
Specifically, it has a larger big pot, (for chili's, lamb stews etc) and the 2 smaller ones are big enough for family size cooking when one cook multiple veggies + rice/potatoes etc.
Also, it didn't contain items we already have, or wanted different kinds of.
At $49.00 I think it was a pretty good deal for the specialized cookware it is.
I'm normally not a fan of these handle types, but these are very thick, and makes them a lot sturdier than one would assume by looking at it.
Also stores in the sink.
Being a family of four, where I make the majority of the meals, I know about what size cookware works and don't work for our needs.
I added to this an aluminum thin griddle, and a 10 inch frying pan + a smallish family size kettle/teapot.

Do the magma pots (the 7-piece set) fit in the sink?
I'm wondering if the handles on the side are an issue.
If so, it doesn't look like whole set would create a problem with the lid, they might must rattle around -- which I would fix with dishtowels.
Just curious.
The largest pot is 9.5 inches wide and I don't know if that includes the handles in that measurement or not.
Thanks. |

I was just wondering this too... I'm thinking of finally buying some pans for the van instead of just grabbing something from the house everytime I go out! (moving on up...)
Anyone know the answer to this one? Looking at the dimensions I was also worried that the pots might be too tall? |
