Thanks for the pics and narrative Rick...I'm still gonna get up there for a day hike as soon as I can with toolbox and hand truck in tow...And perhaps a Sawzall? Twisted Evil

What exactly led you to conclude there is a presence of law enforcement there? Confused

While up there I came across a Sheriffs unit and a Ranger unit three different times.

The abandoned buildings were transformed into an artists’ colony in the 60s and 70s, but were abandoned after the Mandeville Canyon Fire in 1978. Today the grounds of Murphy Ranch are uninhabited, dilapidated, covered in graffiti, and open to hikers. While much of the history is lost, several structures remain, along with long cement staircases that still link Murphy Ranch to Sullivan Ridge Fire Road, providing a 3.85-mile hike with 325 feet of elevation gain.

So hiking is legal?

Hiking is perfectly legal up there, its fine. I just don't know how they would feel about people working on or taking things out of the area. The hiking is great and lot's to see. This area is also surrounded by high end homes so that may explain the patrol units as well. I came across many people from the surrounding area and most didn't even return a simple hello. I think you get the idea.

Hey Rick,
I got this from Google Earth. Can you pinpoint the bus here?
