|
|
I recently acquired a bud vase made by Royal and it comes with this bracket:
I can't seem to find a way to mount it on my 61 dash.
The bracket won't fit securely over the trim, and if I stuff it under the trim, the vase metal clip does not have clearance into the bracket.
Has anyone tackled this before?
Thanks _________________ If all else fails, stop using all else

A PO somehow wedged the bracket into the windshield seal on my '62, but I don't know how he did it. I imagine he must have had the windshield out for some reason when he put the bracket on.

I have a suggestion but it will require a bit of work. You will have to remove the speaker grill.
You drill 2 small holes in the upper area of the bracket. The holes must be spaced vertically and small enough for screws that will fit between the grill slots.
Then put a 180 degree bend the bracket so the top half is behind the lower half. Leave a little space between the two to kick the front out a little...maybe like 3/8 inch. Use a small bolt to bend it around to get a nice smooth curve.
You'll need a small piece of tin or something for a backer to go behind the grill with holes in same locations as you put in the bracket.
You can now mount it below the chrome trim strip (or above) with 2 tiny bolts and nuts through the grill slots.
The front of the bracket should now stick out from the grill enough for the vase to clear the trim piece.
You might want to line the back of the bracket with a little cloth to keep from scratching the paint on the grill. |

I have the same style in my 61. I bent the metal bracket into an U shape and then slid the flat peice between the chrome trim, and the speaker grille. Looks fine, no drilling required, and doesnt fall off at all. Im at work right now, but can post up a pick tonight if ya want me to. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Did the same thing on mine too. If you notice in your picture of the base, it shows you that you have to bend it so it becomes a hook. _________________ Custom labels available here

That'll work... if you're ok with the gap it creates. |

If you notice "also" that it has an end lip that clicks on the bottom and it won't create a gap. _________________ Custom labels available here

I was referring to the gap between the trim and the dash grill.
What gap are you talking about? |

|
The bud vase mounting bracket sold at CIP1 look similar. There's very little clearance for the mounting screws (none came with the vase) between the inside of the bracket (receiver) and the porcelain vase. I found an appropriate size pan head screw (phillips) and with the screw in a vice I used an air sander w/40 grit paper to grind down the head flat. I used a small phillips screwdriver to punch what was left of the remaining head to re-establish the phillips slot. The head of the mounting screw is both strong enough to secure the vase to the dash and thin enough for the limited clearance that the manufacturer allows between the vase and the receiver /mounting bracket. |
