I just contacted Lannner at vdub engineering. Keep them in case we need NOS ones to model off. |

X2! There is interest, but once there are no unworn ones to make a pattern, the part is lost for repro.
If someone has access to one of those fancy 3D laser tools that can create a 3D model from a part, then a 3D printer could fab them relatively cheap...hmmm. |

Lanner can do it as a multi part 2d laser cuts then weld them together.
So can I get these NOS cams for the sake of the type community?
Also I have some one in oz land that can do the 3d design and get them whipped out on CNC. but I can't guarantee that as people here are all talk and no go. |

What do you think those new cams will go for? I'm up for a complete driver's set, maybe also passenger side if the price is right. |

I honestly don't know. I would be happy 200-300 for a complete car set including weld on reinforcement slots for the frame.
CNC time is usually around $160 per hrs here in aus.
Even if I could get the cad models done by someone for a slab or beer or something like that.
Then giving the cad files to people to all around then people can either make them to sell or make for them selves or what ever. I don't care as long as they get made.
This is kind of like my racing strips though haven't got around to making them yet will sooner or latter. My boss is getting in us a Zund L 3200 soonish with 1 killawasp router and MQL too
I will be able to make some racing strips using kiss cut in house and maybe rout some aluminum stuff too, maybe if my boss isn't too strict haha |

we tried doing the stripes remember
and it seems no one wanted them
And i think i did a Great Job designing them!
im wondering why the cams cant just be machined out of steel
or im tossing around the idea of the making the recliners
Now Those are hard to get a set of _________________ 74 Mexi Swamp Thing. 70 square volksrod (Swamp Rat)..65 C10

Yes that what I am trying to do is machine them out of steel, but I need un touched NOS cams to copy from.
I sent a PM to 55ovalcharlie regarding those cams, haven't got a reply just yet.
The strip I can repro exactly and quite easily. My idea was just to make a hand full to keep them rare so to speak. basically just to replace the cars that did or still have them and need replacing. |

Old thread I know, I currently have these modeled up.
. I can 3D print them in steel for $85 USD ea.
And have a simplified version (internal webbing deleated) being quoted on for CNC. First indications are around $150 pr, with the price set to drop steeply with more buy ins.
So put your money where your mouth is and contact me, otherwise the project will be dropped end of January.

I am interested.
How did you build the model? Scan, or manual measure and fit?
Any way to strengthen the rill pin interface? Or is the steel going to handle it better than the original material?
Are there four unique parts in a complete car set, or do the left and right seats share the same pair of parts somehow? |

Hi all, machining quotes are in. Cost would be $110 USD per pair (one seat) plus shipping. _________________ still floating around the web somewhere |

Hi Phil, forgot to respond to your question, sorry about that.
I don't have access to a good scanner, unfortunately cheap ones wii leave you with a "dirty" model, taking more time to fix than just building it by hand in the first place. So the model is done with a vernier, radius gauges and lots of coffee.
I'm not really a type 3 guy, so I can't comment on changing the roll pin. The new ones can be made from steel or 6061 ally. Both will be many tims stronger than the original pot metal part.
Best I know there are only 2 unique parts, left side of the seat and right side of the seat (each just being a mirror of each other) _________________ still floating around the web somewhere |

There are two part numbers for the parts - each seat uses one of each part number.
Sets in steel or alloy would be much stronger and the roll pin wouldn't be an issue. |

Yo Nils,
Beat me to it as have visited this forum many times but finally joined.
I'll add a couple fo more pictures here of the plastic prototype fitted to the seat from a 1972 squareback (the holding spring was left off) but the prototype (it is the right cam) worked well with an old left cam.
The roll pin holds the cam in place and locks it in place so it moves when the adjusting knob is turned (it then moves at the same time) as it does the cap inboard near the centre tunnel on both seats ......
RIGHT SIDE CAM -
LEFT SIDE CAM -
More in the same sequence of right then left in different positions -
3D print model of cam
CNC model of cam
