I was thinking mid 20s. Decent amount of rust. Nice van though, I wish mine was at that level of mods.
Bring a Trailer used to be cheap projects that didn't always run. They used to actually be Bring a Trailer. Then it became Bring Another Thousand. Now it's Bring Another Ten-thousand. I thought with the pandemic prices would slow, but it seems the opposite. I guess enough people flush with cash are bored at home going full force into these bidding wars. I just don't understand the prices some of these cars are going for. That 6k mile e30 m3 that went for $250k has really soured me from that site.
Maybe I am just cheap. _________________ '87 Syncro

I'm currently saving up for a syncro of this build and always curious for what they go for, but yeah unfortunately no CA for this one. |

Less than an hour to go on it and under 15K. This van has been used and it shows. I'll be surprised if it hits 20K. _________________ '87 GL w/ Reimo top |

Jim was pretty close. $31k is showing a pretty strong market. _________________ '87 Syncro

Especially with all that body rust. Way more than I'd think of giving for it. _________________ '86 Westy FAS GenV Turbo (Marvin) |

Cool. So in the last 10 minutes the bids went from $23K to $31K. I haven't watched these auctions much but that's about a 30% increase in bid in the final 1% of time of the auction.
it's far from perfect so that's why it didn't sell for $10K more (although I was looking for the RMW sale that seemed even better than this one)....

1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia just popped on on Bring a Trailer.

The lighting in these pictures seems like of weird. I'm also not sure if it's just me, but the underside of the engine almost seems too clean...as through it's been painted silver or something...

Technically both a syncro and... a split window... could dip into both markets lol |

^^^ That sure is a nice unmolested early Vanagon which I'm guessing is why it went $23K. I don't fear seam rust but it has more than I'd expect, although the undercarriage looked very clean. I wonder what spotless survivors will go for.

Interestingly, a similar '81 with 77K miles went for $12,750 back in 2017. It was resprayed and was showing some seam rust. It seems the $23K price was a good one for the seller.

As for the selling price of a very clean early Vanagon, it looks like $27K will buy a 20K mile Canadian cream puff...
