21K and reserve not met on that 84.
Seemed like a fair price actually.

Agreed - The seller doesn't understand that he would have to spend $10K on a drivetrain update to get the $33k he's looking for.....

i think it was a super solid looking van, minus the r/r dent.

beyond that, it was a lipstick on a pig resto. any time i see fresh undercoating i get suspect.

if any of you have followed my van build you'll see i have left some "flaws" in it...whatever factory undercoating that has flaked off i've left alone....and left the exposed (near perfect) paint under it show thru.

i'm trying not to over spend my vans true value, although i'm not a flipper by any means it seems foolish to pour too much into it.

even at a "diy shop price" for a flip, i bet he had an ez 10k in just materials/labor and that's using cheap materials. add that to the initial purchase price i bet he's 18k +/- into it and was looking for a 10k payday.

Looks like he's listed it wholesale on Manheim now asking $29,999. Dealer is listed as GRS Recovery LLC. Seems like a decent van but not $30k worth. Poor guy probably didn't realize these things are near impossible to flip for profit and got in over his head.

A beast of a Syncro hightop just added:

It will be interesting to see where this one ends up.

$32k - 35k US is my bet, pretty nicely done tintop syncro conversion - like a lot of the little useful little mods (rack, basket, table set-ups) and seems well maintained. Utility - my type of van!

I have a feeling the seller has the reserve in the high $50k range... he also has a friend commenting on how awesome the set up is...

330k on the body, shoddy "new" paint and bed-lined. I'm guessing a lot of suspension components need to be refreshed as well peeking at the video.
$50k is way high IMO.

Its kind of annoying having the friend comment on it so much. It also says no reserve on it.

Kind of made no friends on that auction when I replied to a comment that the transaxle probably cost 13k to rebuild... then the person selling the van implied that it was closer to 10k along with otherstuff, probably not in the most diplomatic way called BS... I'm definitely not liked there... Crying or Very sad
Honestly thought it had a reserve... probably explains why there are so many first time bidders that just registered in the last couple days bidding on it Wink

BaT is fun to watch, but i could never afford to, nor want to, buy a vehicle from there... I'll let the young folk that see an invoice on the "auction" site for work done and think that the value goes up like a bitcoin, because there was all that labor and parts put into it, even though it was over ten years ago... Wink

I'd rather have a 330k vehicle that has been well looked after and I know I can trust with good documented history in hand as opposed to a lower-mileage vehicle with no history.

It wasn't very attractive, really, in black and blue...I think the non-originality hurt the price, too.

Interested to see where this '88 Westy ends up:

If we didn't already have our 1990, I'd be jumping on that rig. Compression numbers solod, ac works, relatively untampered with...

it was a passanger van with a hightop.
sure the back folded to a bed, and you can camp in it.
it's still not a camper, and not going to fetch camper prices.

plus there are alot more options in the van life market these days. so the prices are coming down a little since 5years ago.
330K is ALOT of miles to MANY PEOPLE.. but it only takes 2 to make an auction..
