Did the bids really go from $17K to $42K to $50K? That seems odd. _________________ - Jim

And sold for $35K - I am thinking that’s a pretty value for the miles, rust free condition and Syncro. _________________ 1991 Westfalia EJ251, 1972 Volvo 1800 ES |

That seller doesn't know anything about the Syncro conversion he is selling.
At one point it is 2.0 BEW (no such thing) then it is a BHW from a passat. It is not tuned but has 320 lbs of torque, but has a kerma qloader with multiple tunes...Now he is regurgitating whatever the shop that built it is saying. $75 k in receipts? More money than brains in SV....must be the 6,000 foot altitude. LOL _________________ '89 Westy - EJ25/22 Frank 4.44 5mt

If you read the comments it reveals that the van is being sold for the owner (who is very sick) by the Sun Valley Auto Club and they are not the ones who had all the work done. They are trying to act as go betweens of the builder and buyer.
This looks to be someone's dream build, but sadly, is now being sold because they can no longer continue with the project.
There has been a lot of work done and it looks to be well executed. Might have been cheaper to start with an actual Syncro but things appear to have been done right (no real way to know without seeing the rig in person), again, someone's dream project.
Looks like a solid rig. I can see a few things that still need doing but it's well on it's way to being a Syncro anyone would be proud to own.
Of course the van is only worth what it is, not all the money spent on labor, but hopefully the seller will recoup some of their investment since they didn't get to enjoy the final product. _________________ Currently:

1990 Westfalia with a 2.2L Vanaru Subie swap - 113K Miles - some issues, but likely a decent driver or starter. Apparently this particular model features a "lie-flat rear seat", lol....

And sold for $56.5K - given the $$ invested, the new owner should be happy. _________________ 1991 Westfalia EJ251, 1972 Volvo 1800 ES |

Does anyone have a recommendation for shipping a van from Florida to Alabama? (About 425 miles)? |

For 425 miles I would go pick it up myself. If it does run and that's confirmed, I would fly out and drive it back. If not, I would fly out and rent a uhaul to tow it back.
That's 2 days of driving or 1 really long day. _________________ '87 Syncro

425 miles is a relatively short trip so I'd avoid the risks of hiring a shipper to do this and rent the U-Haul as suggested. I've had two vehicles shipped and each was damaged. The Vanagon only slightly when it was stowed in a moving van and paint was rubbed the wrong way. No big deal. The '65 Rambler Classic 770 received long gashes when the car hauler dude attempted to hook it in soft places. Bad luck for me and not representative but for a 425 mile haul I'd make a weekend of it and get it myself. FWIW, YMMV. _________________ - Jim

Holy cow, that's a lot of paperwork. It looks pretty clean and will go for $22K - $25K ($22.3K)

Too bad the dent removal was poorly done, I easily noticed them before reading that comment. _________________ - Jim
