Mildly concerned the westy bubble has shrunk. Bad time of year to auction a boy toy. |
Time of year coupled with economy issues one can only expect... it does seem in the past two months especially there are more reserves not met on BAT than before.
Although if you wanted to make money should have never bought a classic VW. |

I'd be curious about the mileage on the GW motor in that one. But otherwise that looks like a good one. _________________ Joe T.

Actually they use mag chloride which causes rust. Lots of rusted out cars up here. _________________ '84 Westy, '93 Subaru ej22 and Subarugears 5speed

In 30+ years of living here, I've never had a single vehicle develop rust on it. If I were to snap a pic of the underside of my van, you can still see the original paint under there. _________________ 1984 2wd 7 Passenger Tin Top |

I'm sure you are a very conscientious car owner and frequently wash your car in the winter. Good on you! But this van may not have had the same care and been driven frequently in the winter to the high country. I'm reluctant to drive my van in the winter since they use the liquid stuff along with sand/gravel mix with "de-icer" in it. They start dumping it on the roads as soon as the snow starts sticking.

But then, this real salt, in Boston today...

I think I've washed it maybe 5 times in the last 10 years. The only rust that formed on it was the exhaust/muffler from its time in the 80s on the coast in San Diego. Now, the paint on the other hand, the sun has done a number on that living outside its entire life... _________________ 1984 2wd 7 Passenger Tin Top |

^^^ this is a @911r listing - if you check out his other listings, a large percentage of them are worthy of a calendar or wall art. He uses a photography agency named Image Engine which is not cheap, but he typically makes up the extra cost through the extra revenue the premium images/listings produce. It will be interesting to see if this ‘model’ holds true with this listing. His driving videos are also becoming somewhat legendary in that the cars he lists get a thorough and spirited run, regardless of their rarity or pedigree. _________________ 1991 Westfalia EJ251, 1972 Volvo 1800 ES |

Oof, what a beauty! This will put a dent in the tin-top Vanagon price ceiling. It's already ahead of the 2WD tin-top record of $15,250 (if I'm reading the history correctly).
