GoWesty has a 1.4KW gear reduction starter now. Automatic only, but they say manual trans one is coming

Might be nice if you have built a monster high compression engine, but hardly necessary on a stock WBXer,IMHO. Might also be better than the stock starter for starting a Subaru.

I would checkout Westy Ventures if you are considering a different starter. Karl makes an adapter that fits a TDI starter to an gasser bellhousing I think. http://www.westyventures.com/parts.html

I think I might have to pass on GoWesty's "recommendation" for a starter.. I got bit by the last one they offered, a "HiTorque GVW-IMI-104" .. which ended up being glitchy as hell and they pulled after a few years.

I've got the IMI in my Westy spinning a 2.7 liter Subaru. After I installed it five years ago I read about all the problems they were having. So far with over 50k mikes mine is doing just fine. Maybe it's a fluke. I got mine from some race parts outfit called good vibrations or something
