It will work on any rim with an outer lip.

If your wheels don't have an outer lip, you can buy the adapter clamps (P/N: 91030). Otherwise you can just hold it against the wheel but that makes setup a two-man job.

Thanks, will this do everything for a bug alignment, stock height or lowered?

Ride height makes no difference.

Well, it won't do toe settings without the optional kit. But you can make your own with the same functionality from two pieces of angle iron or flat plate for a lot less. The problem with this style of toe measurement tool is that it can only measure total toe, not each side individually. You'd have to be able to measure against the car centerline for that. This is not really a problem for the front wheels as the worse that will happen is that your steering wheel is not centered. The rear is a different story. The VW's special tool to set rear toe measures to the center rib on the transmission. You should look up the different DIY toe alignment setups people have come up with.
