Hi, I have a favor to ask of someone here.
I recently installed Australian gauges in my 73 Type 3. The Aussie speedometer has a smaller diameter nut where the speedo cable connects.
I've been told by someone from Australia that a late model Ghia has the same diameter shaft where the cable connects.
So... if someone that has a late Ghia and either a spare speedo to check or if someone doesn't mind popping one out to measure with a vernier caliper...I'd be very appreciative.
I measured the back of the Aussie speedo where the nut screws on and it's 15.73mm (15mm) where the U.S. speedo is 17.55mm (17mm) and they are both 1.5 pitch.
Thanks in advance... I hope. |

I just measured my Ghia Speedo and it is 17mm. I am in Largo Florida USA.
I have a 1970 Ghia. |

Thanks for the reply. I don't think a 70 is "late enough".
I probably should have been a little more specific. I was told that the 73-74 Ghia had the smaller speedo cable nut. |

72-74 - the cable changed when the gauges changed. |

by "cable changed" do you mean changed to the 15mm shaft of the speedo cable or just changed in general?
still looking for a confirmation of the 15mm shaft before I order parts. |

I have a late '74, just measured it. It is 17 mm. The retainer on the end of the cable that holds it to the speedo is a plastic half- turn thing, not a threaded one.
Good luck.

Thanks Bob.
That's what I was afraid of and why I wanted to check before ordering.
On a positive note I found someone in Australia who is going to send me the right one. |
