That's a good route, Mike. Looks like you are heading to the cabin? I really like the direction of 2nd campsite... nice out that way.

Yeah, I'd like to show these guys the Shack / mine. It's a pretty bad-ass site for sure. |

I'll be topbud's copilot, really looking forward to it! It seems like our best contender for an acvw will be a beater 71 standard beetle. The heater cranks, plenty of room for parts/camping/skiing gear, and it loves being blasted by salty gravel. |

Right on Matt. It'd be good to see you and Tony.
On a side note, I propose that everyone bring a growler of their favorite microbrew (or homebrew) to share. We could come up with some interesting local concoctions... |

8:00AM start time? I'm sure my GF would appreciate a night in a hotel the night before. Any recommendations for something near Magdelena for Thursday night? |

There's a few hotels in Belen, Nm, which is just north of the start point. Can't really recommend much, as I've never stayed there.
This is also right across from the starting point, so if you like bird watching, you're in for a treat!

pb24ss- What bluegrass band do you play with? I'm the banjo/dobro player for voluntary string band, was thinking about bringing an instrument along. I'm not sure it will be physically possible to play in the cold temperatures, but worth a shot.
Mike, sounds like N. Mexico is getting hammered by storms right now! Do you think there will be some areas for potential backcountry skiing along our route opened up by this snow? Matt |

I don't play with one. I don't have any musical ability unfortunately. I am a bluegrass fanatic though. The line in my location is from a hot buttered rum string band song. |

For sure! There's quite a bit of trails and forested areas that we'll be heading through. Part of the area just got 22" of new powder last week. We're supposed to get more this weekend. Funny thing is, it doesn't stick around very long around here unless you get higher up in elevation. I fully expect to find quite a bit of snow to play in, get stuck in, and slide around on. I'm bringing tubes and sleds. |

Sounds great! So much for la nina causing dry NM winters (knock on wood).
Hot Buttered Rum plays in Flagstaff every so often, they're a fun band to see! |

I just drove through that area last week. I took the 60 from Soccoro to Roswell. I'm hanging in San ANtonio right now. I will be heading back that way on Monday, any way I can get a map of the area, to check it out. There is a killer camp spot in San ANtonio, NM right outside of Bosque de Apache. Free camping, no amenities. We'll be leaving from FLG Thursday night. Super psyched. _________________ 86 bostig SYNCRO
