If money were no object for me, I would have a Syncro, instead of saving up for a peloquin to make mine a 2wd. _________________ 1985 Wolfsburg Weekender- 2.5L Subie Power

It's funny that you mention that. I've had that same thought. A couple years ago, while staying in West Yellowstone, I kept looking at a Mattrax equipped Chevrolet C cab school bus parked across the street.
I researched them and found that even though they are very expensive new, you can find used sets on eBay for a lot less. They are usually for Jeeps or other american SUVS, but if someone were to change the bolt pattern on a Vanagon to 5x114.3 (easy) or 5x120 (harder), these used units could become a bolt on.
My problem is I don't live close enough to snow. Snoqualmie Pass is only 45 minutes away from me, but what am I going to do, trailer the Syncro up there to drive it way up in the mountains?

I lice IN Yellowstone, and in winter, this is how we get around. I was going to photoshop these tracks onto my Westy for fun. I figured someone would figure it was not a synchro and bust me on it.
I don't get to drive them, just be hauled in them. In fact Sat morning I am heading back in and will be riding in one. Mammoth to Old Faithful.
I'll post a road test experience when I get in. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome

I would pay someone else to to a complete resto mod build, to my specifications.

looks cool but WTH would I do with a single cab?
the seat doesn't even recline enough for me. and that sleeping platform looks mighty chilly.

When you're done, the tracks unbolt.. Your regular wheels bolt back on.
So when the snow gets deep you bolt the tracks on.. but you're not gonna leave your wheels by the side of the road are ya?
According to a guy I spoke with about these up on Sonora Pass, CA last winter.. They get awful gas mileage and you won't want to go much faster then 25mph or so in deep snow... mostly becuase you don't know what lurks under that pristine white surface. _________________ -89 GL Westy, SVX.. finally.
