Thanks Loren and Aerosilver. Looking at the pics in the link, it does appear I have something rare. Guess the Shop F'd up big time giving me these. I may have to play it in my favor depending on their attitude. We'll see if they come up with a reasonable replacement and perhaps some other stuff I need or was shorted on when I got my parts back, if they even know they've given me early glass.
Otherwise I'll keep them and see about helping someone else.
Appreciate the information,

Unfortunately not so much for the other guy that brought his lowlight Karmann Ghia Cabriolet to the same restoration shop.
Just think, when that guy realizes his original glass has gone missing he may actually end up buying his own glass back from The Samba Classifieds as it will likely be the only set available.
... then again, maybe I just think too much. |

I feel for the guy if that turns out to be the case, but I have a feeling these were old laying around my pile of parts, and some trainee may have mistaken them for mine and boxed them up.
We'll see if the resto shop responds and tells me they made a mistake and has my original glass, I may respond that I traded them off for the proper glass instead....you guys are giving me lot's of ideas!

I think this is an aftermarket starter solenoid relay maybe from a mustang. Do I need it in my 71 ghia coupe auto stick? If not, how do I eliminate or better -go back to what should be there. I think it is supposed to have a neutral cut off switch. PS this car won't start.

I think it was a supplemental starter selonoid. Someone probably added it when the car wouldn't start well. What they needed to do was clean contacts along the starting circuit. This this just added to teh problem of current flow. |

Support for the bumper overrider. it sits in the back of the bumper behind the overrider taking the nut ( or bolt depending on the version ) and washer that holds the blade section and the overrider in place.
Seen in action here...
four required for each car

Are these needed for a Ghia? Found in a box from the PO.

Ah thanks. I guess that first pic is the key. Don’t think I need that _________________ 1971 Ghia coupe. Assume I know nothing and you'll be pretty darn close to the truth. |

That looks like a clip for a relay but doesn’t really look stock.
It’s hard to tell it’s size. _________________ Volkswagen!

It’s about the size of a relay so that seems like a fair guess! I’ll just tuck it away until I’m ready to work on the electrical, by which time I will have forgotten about this part _________________ 1971 Ghia coupe. Assume I know nothing and you'll be pretty darn close to the truth. |

I've no idea.
I know they came off the car.
Just one of the many things I have left over.

Those look like the clips that slide into an electrical connector and keep it from inadvertantly pulling off.
That type of clip is used on a good number of the electrical connections in modern Volkswagens and Audis, but I don't know if they were actually used way back when your Ghia was produced. |

I am about ready to put the body back on my "body off" 1970 ghia. It is 1970 chassis but had a single port H5 1500 cc engine which is now 1650 cc and raring to go! I had a question about the extra holes in the engine compartment. It looks like several were created for wire looms on the drivers side. I suspect this was done when engine was swapped. My research suggests that this ghia had a dual port 1600 cc when it was new. Any ideas on which were original holes and which seem to be aftermarket?

I think you may have a few extra holes on that lower left side of your engine compartment. I have a 71 and I don't have any holes in that location, the only holes I have are on the upper left side where the wire loom runs, the drain tube for my convertible, and the decklid release cable...Yours looks a bit hacked up.
Some of those cuts you have don't look stock, unless maybe that Ghia had an autostick tranny, but i'm not sure about that since I have never had an autostick
The hole on the lower right looks reasonable..here's what mine looks like
Hope this helps,

Here's a "before" look at the unmodified stock engine compartment of my '71 taken back in 2004 for comparison. IIRC only two of the three holes in the lower left were used, one as the pass-through for the battery cable to the starter (shown) and the other for the wire from the reverse switch to the fuse holder. The original purpose of those oblong holes on either side remains a mystery to me |
