Thanks for quick response! I plan to patch the "aftermarket" holes. Another question: Currently I have my engine mounted and running on the chassis. I would like to leave it on as I drop the body on. It seems to me that I should have the wire loom in place and the tarboard that is in front of the fan also in place because these would be a pain to position once body on with engine in place. Is there anything else that I should have in place so I don't end up saying "%&#@$, I should have done that prior to putting body on" Thanks!

IMHO it's worthwhile having the body and pan mated before running the wiring, but it's probably moot. One aspect you may find in retrospect is that it's easy to adjust the rear hatch release without the engine installed; I found sitting on the garage floor, under the car, with my upper body in the empty engine compartment was one of the coolest experiences of the restoration, er, okay, it was more of a "rebuild" for any purists reading this Wink Then again, you may be able to finagle adjusting the rear hatch release properly with the body in the air Think

I just tried playing with this exact thing yesterday, without the engine in place... yeah fun sitting in empty engine compartment, and making vroom vroom noises.....but hell trying to get that cable release adjusted in the mechanism, while trying to also adjust the pin to catch and release....popping it open multiple times from underneath is the real fun!!! still trying to get it right.

Looks like the reinforcing strap for the rear seat bottom.

Folks, on a 1971 Ghia...anybody happen to know what the metal line under the passenger rocker is supposed to carry? Previous owner appears to have cut it. Brakes and fuel work fine so I have no clue.

Most likely part of the fuel vapor containment/capture system (you know, charcoal canisters, etc.)

Hi folks! Can anybody point me to a part number/name for the clip that holds your distributor cap & rotor in place? It’s a low profile metal “ring” that tightens with a nut & bolt, right where the distributor rotor shaft goes into its “hole”. It’s the piece that you loosen & tighten during timing adjustment. Mine is bent and I want to replace it along with my distributor cap (Bosch 009) but can’t find the piece or a diagram that includes it online!

Thank you kindly sir. You led me to VW Distributor Clamp - Empi 113905250

Do you think there are big advantages of a renewed original piece over a repop in this case? Seems like $20 vs $4

Yes, the $4 dollar one will eventually strip out or loosen up just when you need it and you're out on the road too far from any parts, and the original refurbished will probably last another 20-40 years. Just my opinion of course.

I'd use an original but unless you want a mint restored one, you can find a decent used one for less money.

Just a followup on this.

I figured out during assembly.... these hold the fresh air cable for passenger side. one at each end. Squeezed to hold cable cover.

Hi group - my first post! Got this 1970 Ghia for my wife last year and she's a very happy camper. I also got a couple boxes of spare parts for the factory installed AC that was removed by a PO and I'm trying to figure out if they are worth holding onto or selling. Please advise!
