You know, Darrel ... you could have really saved yourself a lot of time and effort if you had just bought the 1967 model year Karmann Ghia that you obviously wanted in the first place.

I second that. I thought I was buying a '67 but it was a '68. Now I have a smell of petrol (gasoline for those in the New World) in the car every time I do a right turn.

I'll give it a go...
1. Preheat tube. Part of the engine tin, right side. Connects to a corrugated hose that leads to the oil bath air filter.
2. Metal collars for inside the 'accordion tubes' that connect the heat exchangers to the cabin heat ducts. Two per tube. That whitish stuff is asbestos, so handle with care.
3, 4. Not sure!
5. Look familiar, plugs for somewhere on the brakes!
6. Clips to hold brake lines to the body.

Good luck!

Thanks! I used an EMPI air cleaner for the time being so I'll put #1 in the bin with the oil bath filter thing

Does #2 go under the car? (you can reply in the other thread I posted about how to hook up the fresh air hose) I looked below and it looks like I just need two black plastic accordian hoses with hose clamps at either end... do I need those? where would they go exactly? still a little confused

Thanks!

Just my .02 but I'd ditch the empi cleaner and run with the stock.
That pre-heat was there for a reason.

Yes, those #2 go on those accordion tubes that connect the heater box to the car so you have heat. Look under the rear passenger seats for where the heat comes in. On the outside of the cabin is where those accordion tubes go. They are threaded so you can turn and shorten/lengthen as needed. IIRC.

#3 should be the seal for where the fuel filler tube goes into the body, it looks just like the one I just replaced on my Bug

Ooh! That's a beauty! It's the bowden cable and clip that is part of the thermostatically controlled preheat system. It connects a lever on the 'rear' of the fan shroud to a flap on the oil bath air cleaner.
Rare piece to find in good condition. DO NOT throw it away!
As suggested, you would be better to reinstall the oil bath air cleaner and all the cables and flaps, but some are difficult to find.
Best to do a search to read around this assembly.

PostPosted: Tue Mar 14, 2017 4:24 pm    Post subject: Unidentified Hazet tool Reply with quote

Although not technically a Ghia part, this tool came from the man who introduced me to VWs and he owned 2 Ghias. I have had this tool for over 30 years and only today did I notice it said Hazet on it.

Can anyone tell me what it is and if it has any value? The 6-point box end is 13 mm and the hex drive side is 14 mm. Given it's shape I imagine it was a purpose built tool.

Thanks,
Emil

Thanks for the info guys.
Oddly enough the man, my neighbor growing up, never owned a Benz nor did I ever see him working on one.

The tool is NoVAs if he wants it, I will probably never own a MB.

Hi,

Any idea what these washers are for?

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

They were in a box of parts from my 68 Ghia vert which was partially disassembled when i purchased it. I have four of them in total.

There is a good chance they are off the Z bar set up. Being a 68 is a tip off for me.
