Hey guys, i own a bay(don't stop reading just yet) but i love the barndoor and all its glory. Anyway, i was talking to a much much older lady at work the other day and she said she owned one in the early fifties. Shocked I asked her details and she said, "oh it had the smallest taillights i've ever senn on a car, and a huge engine lid(held up hands about the size of a barndoor lid, she said it was a neat flattish green, i showed her mango and she said it was that on top with beige on bottom, does thatall fit to be a barndoor? paint wise and all? btw she traded it partial on a brand new chevy in 1957 Laughing

Ask her if she has any pics of it.

So new update (haha i feel like a vw detective) she said that she got married at 16 in 1951, she preceded to buy the bus in at age 17 in 1952, confirming it was a barndoor bus, she said she now remembers it was palm green and beige

That Color combo not available pre 55 !
maybe she remembers a stone grey for a greenish tint or repainted after 55.

maybe it was the bus on the right? traces of palm green are visible above the beltline.

it wasn't all that uncommon for a car to get painted an updated color from the color it was delivered in. the bus on the right is a 53 so her memory could be slightly off...ever so slightly

I'm guessing she'll find the pic, it will be black and white, and this will become a 10 page study of that picture dissecting all possible scenarios of what colors it may/may not be. I can't wait! Very Happy

So the ladies has looked and looked, but no pic so far Sad but! I've jogged her memory some, and she said it had a pod, no dash, and just a bar in front the passenger! She said her and her husband bought it brand new in 1955 and in 57 traded it in on a 57 chevy in petersburg, va
