My 63 ragtop has a sapphire I with white / Ivory knobs. I just found a 63 sedan with a sapphire I with grey knobs. Why the different color? Is one more rare?
Thanks Geoff _________________ 1963 Ragtop |

Do you think we should live in a whites only world?
There were black knobs too. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

I always thought that certain color schemes called for grey rather than ivory knobs, the way that steering wheels, shift knobs, and window winder knobs did. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Ugh, how awful for you. I'll take it off your hands and give it a home in a proper silver beige interior

Since radios were dealer installed items I'm not too sure there is any correct color of the knobs. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

I see knobs for Sapphires in the classifieds every once in a while. It should not be too hard to find a set of the proper color. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

i know the feeling, i have a 58 convertible- everything is ivory, except for the radio which is a sapphire II AM / FM from a 64- the knobs that are etched and printed with "AM" and "FM" are grey, I wish they were ivory, they stand out like a sore thumb! |
Thanks for all the replies. I thought it might be a color scheme thing.
BTW my Sapphire II which also came out of a 64 has Ivory knobs. Go figure.

My Sapphire II was the first VW item that I ever bought. I helped put a stereo in a 64 bug back in 1973 and I bought it for $10.00. So I have a lot of sentimental value in it. My wife has tried to "donate" to the Goodwill a few times

Hey Dangermouse, those gauges are rad. What are they, where'd you get 'em? _________________ I know this isn't an English classroom, but seriously people, spellcheck is rad, and even the cool kids use punctation SOMEtimes...

I'd like to know where that 4000rpm tach came from as well.... looks like it would match my SW oil temp guage perfectly. _________________ Orange whip? Orange whip?.... Three orange whips...

What can I say, I likes my clocks. 4k tach, CHT, oil press & temp are VDO Series 1 (running off a small 6-12V converter) and complement the stock gauges nicely; nhspeedometer have 'em, as do the usual gauge suppliers. Also got a sweet 6V motometer volt gauge and a 6V clock (out of an old Ford I believe, shhh, don't tell anyone...).

True.
My Oct 63 has silver beige knobs but the dealer installed radio still had the ivory knobs. Lucily I found a complete set of silver beige at the busfest for $5! |

tell your wife to donate it to me. are you using the radio? i just need the knobs so everything in my car matches- i will actually put the ivory knobs to good use. if youre not using your radio im pretty sure it wont care if its wearing silver-beige knobs. pretty please _________________ Official 58-60 "Early Big Window" Convertible Thread & Registry
