Always a cook. Just not always the Chef.

I think one is skilled in Administration and has lots of people below. Well a cook is a chef is they are any good but often don't have the political might of having the crown of a "Chef". A cook can do anything and a skilled Chef recognizes that! just sorta kidding _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

so, bringing this bac to the cook off... is any mise en place allowed at home...??? probably shouldn't be. And, will we have a cartwheeling announcer introducing the other element??? _________________ WIT WA DA DA (Peace and Unity)

I am going back and forth with this. In my initial thoughts, home Mise would not be allowed, but the overall time to prepare would need to increase. Then there is the question of teams - is it one person, two, or would three be allowed?
Have to think past pro cooks abilities - whats it take for a home cook to prep 2 quarts of holy trinity? Basic stocks should be allowed (if wanted)? I want to keep it simple, but an equal playing field for all. More fun that way. Added interest being brought from ones home garden.
Of course someone will pull a Careme, in some fashion. Cant be helped.
Also - as I do like the above posters suggestion that turns it into a pot luck, but most are competitive by nature and would enjoy the challenge associated with a friendly competition.
Maybe Aswah (if willing) and I can get a rough draft of competition rules and outline built by PM, and then post here for general consideration rather than endless posts on the minutae of cookery and whats allowed and whats not?
Then the thought would be that we have similar competitions on either coast?
All in the efforts of good fun, comaraderie and good eating.

Just got back to thread & noticed that a while back a viewer questioned how you turn peaches into pineapples!
That is the hard part & a trade secret!
Nah, 2 different Dutch Oven desserts-peaches are in Peach Cobbler & pineapples/cherries are in Pineapple Upside Down cake. BTW, these are REALLY basic DO desserts.
Plating & presentation are everything, & pairing the wine w/ fud even while camping & don't forget the cloth napkins & candles-always required.

Someone finally noticed my humor!
Standard of Rules throughout USA/CANADA events and winners advance to bigger regional events, etc.... onto the International Cook Off
No special plates, pans, etc... Only what is normally carried in the "cooks" van/euro is allowed. One 2 burner stove, one cooler/ice box/fridge, 3 or 4 pots/pans. The difficulty presented by the restricting rules will only add to the challenge! The person who can do it all in one pan should be considered highly skilled
Everyone who is tasting brings their plates, utensils, chair and BYOB and vessel. I'm not going to be a cook, but I hereby volunteer and/or will pay to be a taster _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
