Took the big goofy 68-70 taillights off and put the smaller ones on. Also got a pair of cone filters from the Kaddieshack for the carbs.

I had a little chuckle with the photos, front end reminds me of the cartoon show with speed buggy in it, got that serious look to it like it is on a mission to get something done.

Ha, yea I need to remove the hood pin pieces, fill them, paint the hood and apron to match the rest of the car and then put the latches back on.

Ok finally got this thing insured and registered. Fixed the carb issue. Been driving it around locally to work out any bugs it might have before it receives any offroad beatings. Got the oil pressure light working, it had a bad sender. It runs real good, except the engine has this rumbling vibration when in neutral and in gear, but you can only hear and feel it when your inside the car. I'm wondering if the flywheel is out of balance or pressure plate out of balance or something? Flywheel was used and PP was new when I put them in.

looks like a fun place to play. the sand tires should work great if you can keep the RPMs up. great job on the other fixes and good you see you having fun with the car.

Thx Pafree, I have some more action shots and vids I need to upload. Are these paddles strictly for loose fine sand or will they get ruined with gravel mixed sand and dirt? The places we go have some pebbles mixed with sand, not that these tires are new but I don't want to completely destroy them. Also keeping the rpms up can be a chore at times especially in 2nd gear. I was thinking of pulling the engine over the winter to switch to a lightened flywheel, but do you think bajas are genereally too heavy for lightened flywheels with stockish 1600s? thx

Also something like these Terras might be a little more practical for me than the paddles Twisted Evil

i would stay away from the lightened flywheels. they are more for drag racers and you wont have the weight to produce as much torque.

not a expert on paddles but i think they are more for straight sanddunes but small pebbles might start to scratch and wear them out. if you are having trouble keeping up RPMs now then when they dig in then the RPMs are really going to go down unless you are hitting it hard.

bigger tires like the Terras will keep you on top but you still need the power to push them when you start to dig in. they do look cool. i tried tires like them when i first started out and they worked great off road but it felt like i was driving a tractor instead of a car.

action shot and vids. ahhhhhhh VW porn.

Like he said, stick to the sand with the paddle tires. You can run them in other types of terrain like you stated, but not knowing how deep they cut them and the age of the casing they more than likely will get torn up.

For a small cc engine I would stay with a stock flywheel, need the inertia to keep from stalling while crawling around.
I have a 12 pound in my car but I am geared to tall to crawl.. Rolling Eyes

Thanks guys yea I'll hold onto them in case I ever get somewhere with it with some fine sand. They don't let us drive on the beaches up here either Crying or Very sad I will save the lightened flywheel for the time I build up a ballsy engine for this thing.
