|

Does anybody know if this is the correct color-match combo for the 1961-1963 beetle series interiors for the L41 colored beetles?
I would appreciate some pics to reckon if my interiors (and plastic knobs..) are the right ones since in the data bank section there is not a pictures of the Derby Grey interiors that should be the correct ones for this color.
This is a picture of my interiors, now the car should be still in its original paint and interiors (standing from what the pre-owner told to me even if i spotted that the car was repainted here and there...) even if i cannot be sure (i will need the birth certificate to solve the doubt) anyway i am a lil suspicious it was L41 in origin.
Is there another method to discover the original paint from the numbers other than request the certificate to the Museum? I have seen the number tag in the front spare wheel area but there is not any color code in it..
And what about the black armrest??? Are they correct?
Any suggestions would be appreciate, thanks

Neither your interior panels nor your seat covers appear to be correct, at least for early 60s US-spec cars.
According to the Garwood "Car of the Century" book, here are the color combinations for a deluxe sedan painted L41 Black (I've used the 1962 model year):
Interior panels: two-tone, either Derby Gray with Silver Beige, or True Red with Silver Beige. Armrests were Silver Beige.
Seat Covers: if cloth and vinyl Derby Gray with Silver Beige; if leatherette True Red. _________________ Driving in the slow lane since 1969. |

It should be fairly easy to tell if the car has ever been repainted a different color. Check door jambs, under door and quarter interior panels and wiring cover, spare tire well and other places. There may be a color label as in this photo.

Thank you all guys.
I have already checked different spot, anyway if the car was ever been repainted, the work was accurate.
I will order anyway the certificate.
I have seen on both the TMI and WolfsburgWest sites that they just have a red letherette but not the true red original style, does anybody have the TMI or WW red interiors for the L41? |

These are some photos of my 1960 bug. It is an original L41 black. The interior is the TMI interior. I am quite satisfied with it. I understand that it is not quite a perfect match to the original factory. I would view it as good value for the dollar. I really like the black/red combination. Black is not the easiest color to keep clean. Any imperfections in body work really show up with black.. One of the very first bugs I ever drove when I was a teenager back in the 60's was a 1960 black bug with red interior. I loved that black bug. That was really a motivating factor to purchase the bug I now own.
The photos of the seats were taken with flash which makes them look a little more orange then they actually are. The door panel was no flash. |

Seat frame L466 silver beige. Ivory dash knobs is what I have seen in L41 black cars including my original 1960. I have an original 1960/1961 radio and the dash knobs matched the radio knobs. Of course the ivory color fades and kind of yellows with time. Flash in the picture sometimes makes these seem whiter than they really are. |
