I am building a Manx clone and going for an old school hot rod look. I am using a 17x9 rim in the back and a 15x7 up front. I was thinking of using a 255 50 r17 = 27" tall or a 285 40 r17 = 26 ". For the front using a 195 50 r15 . I am going to use an aftermarket speedo. What size do you guys think works best Thanks |

Your F/B sizes sound nice to me. I do not warm to too low a profile on a buggy. ..'cept on that street weapon the AUDI designer did a few years ago.
Here's a great place to play; 'What if.' You can enter every variable for both F/B at look at them both at the same time.

That is cool! But I could not figure out how to plug in a 31 10.50 tire. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

I wouldn't go any taller than a 26 in the rear, it will start to affect your final gear ratio and you should have a decent motor to push taller tires, I even noticed the difference with my 2332.
Another thing to keep in mind is that larger wheels/tires are usually pretty heavy and will decreease the stopping power of your drum brakes ifheavy enough so judge your braking distances accordingly when you first put them on.
CB has a gear ratio/rpm calculator in their tech section that is very usefull.

Rim, or overall wheel?
My current buggy build will have a 28 inch tall wheel on the front and 30 inch on the rear (205 X 75 15 and 31 X 10.50 15). A 4.37 R&P in a IRS T1 case. Dual sport style build.
I like Rick's gear calculator on this web site. It lets me customize each gear and see the impact.
