Yes - Espar of Michigan, who own the site esparparts.com. Very good prices but also lackluster tech support.

Regarding the original question of this thread: We've recently discovered that the gurgling is greatly reduced with a) slightly smaller gas jet and b) longer intake and exhaust pipes, on the Propex heaters. These effectively smooth out the burn and sound quite pleasing.

Here is my video:

Results: 58 dBA with the muffler, 62.5 dBA without. So 4-5 dBA reduction in volume, or almost half as loud.

Thread resurection. Our Espar is plenty quiet inside. It is actually nice to hear it kick on and off during the night. Many of the National parks and State parks have quiet hours and anyone that camps knows how a little sound travels in the dead calm of night. Is there a muffler for the espar available? If so, what about a part number? I have seen pictures on the www. I'd really like to quiet it down for any neighbors. I have not had any complaints, but try to be courteous, short of freezing. Thank you.

I have mine pointing down.
This greatly effects the amount of noise.
Grass, soil etc absorb much.
An idea.

Karl, I did not see it listed on their website. I emailed them, but thought maybe the actual part number would help. I guess I could call, but have gotten used to using email to contact companies. I think it is less disruptive to the smaller businesses. That is the company I purchased our D2 from. thank you. mark

Call, that's why they have a phone. They're far from 'small'. I don't have time to dig out a number...searching the 'net should turn it up though. I've always been able to reach them by phone, less so via email.

Karl, they emailed me back this morning. If anyone else stumbles across this thread like I did, here is the info from esparparts.com:

Yes, we have a silencer for the Espar D2. P/n 22.1000.40.0900 and you are correct, its not on the sight. You may need a couple of 26mm clamps as the silencer is usually inserted somewhere in the middle of the exhaust pipe. The silencer is about 48.00 and the clamps are about 13.00 each. They are stainless. You will need 2 of them. Call me tomorrow if you like and we will get these pieces to you.

I am calling them now. Thank you. mark

I just tried the muffler sold for Espar heaters, it works MUCH better than the lawn mower muffler I tried

two thumbs up on the Espar muffler. I got mine from EsparParts.com for $48.73

When I installed the muffler, running in the garage, I was not so impressed. Later, I had the van outside garage running the heater and I could not hear the heater from standing in the garage. So, I mark that as a "big" improvement.

Awesome! I'd love to pickup this Espar Muffler... Any idea what the two-clamps they are referring to and how they are special? ($13.00/each)

I asked them the same question, why not just use a hose clamp? They said, these clamps are much stronger, and are stainless steel.

I bought one. It is very solid. I think a hose clamp would work just as well, but have not tried one on the other end yet.

here is a pic of my current installation:
I cut a section of the exhaust line and inserted the muffler between. It is clamped with the super clamp at one end, and push fitted into the other end, until I get a hose clamp Smile

I purchased two clamps. I also fabricated a support for the muffler to take the load off of the exhaust pipe. I like to do things once when possible.
