I recently had someone "help" me with a build of a 1904 for my square which turned into a DISASTER. I had to pull it and redo it again myself only after 2000 miles. Some of the aftermath is here... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=490341&highlight=reuse+existing+rings

I got it all sorted and put back together finally. Very Happy

Here's a short vid of the first start up for cam burnishing. It did obviously smooth out and run nice. Very Happy It's back in the car now and I'm going thru the breakin.

I ended up with....

OG AS41 case from a donor square (line bored .020 over)
Gene Berg T3 Full Flow Kit
CB 4140 74mm CW crank (now ground .010-.010 Sad )
Mahle 90.5 pistons and cylinders
Engle W110
Wizemann lifters
SCAT I-beam rods (vw journal, 5.394")
CB 1.25:1 super stock rockers
stock type 3 heads P&P and HD springs
Manton chromoly pushrods
Tri-Mil over the top exhaust
Dell 40mm carbs
Glenn Ring rebuilt 019 distributor
9.1:1 CR

Time will tell if I'm a better "builder" than the hack I had help me. Shocked
